If you have more than 2GBs of RAM – you need to be aware of the AE issues involved. You need to also look into the ‘3GB Switch’ and implement that so that your programs can take advantage of the extra RAM (other wise their stuck with 2)
You also have to set your AE working prefs differently. I wrote up a few things here:

you can also check out http://www.xeler8r.com, digital-tutors.com, lynda.com etc. tho they are mostly vid-tutorials on CDs – but much cheaper/faster ways of learning. Xeler8r’s the best, imho 😉

All of the above are awesome tips. you might also want to attend a conference – LA DV, NAB post Production world, NAB East, NY DV etc. where they have some intense AE classes. I did this when I was first learning – and although it was expensive I looked at it as an investment. It was WELL worth it. It accelerated me beyond measure. (for me it was AE West)
you can also volunteer at most of these things and get a VIP pass in exchange.
Hope that helps!

Can you upgrade to CS2?
This is actually a very HUGE overlooked feature – you can convert the one (or multiple) layer(s) to a smart object. When you save this psd MOST programs read the smart object as a normal, flattened layer. However, when you open it back up in PS – you’ve got it fully editable (layer styles and all)
I’ve got some vid-tutes on xeler8r and soon here at the Cow as well on how to do this.
Sounds like just what you’re looking for.

CS2 is sweet in that you can have layered PSDs INSIDE layered PSDs – nested/instances of psds. So, if for instance you have created an interface object like screws or something on a website design – you can create one – turn it into a smart object and then duplicate it as needed. If you decide to change the screw – open one and change it – all the rest will update.
This is awesome – much improved workflow and just one reason CS2 might be worth upgrading for you.
I also talk about this in the free vid-tutorials on xeler8r.com
It’s easy to get excited about it.

hmmm – is your hard drive low on space? Does this still happen after rebooting? There are a number of problems this could be – the first I think of is spooling. Is it just one file in particular? Is it a big file? Try other files and let us know if you still have problems.
You may need to just copy/paste the image into a new, blank canvas. This sometimes solves some odd errors.

Are you running PS CS2 by any chance? If so – they added the ability to warp imagery just like the text warp. (you can check that on xeler8r.com)
If you’re doing it in CS, it doesn’t have that same type of warping – but you can probably fudge it with Liquify or similar. What exactly are you trying to end up with?
Hope that helps,

yeah – a bit of a pain. But – you can add a blank layer above and name it the same as the one you are replacing. Then hit CMD+E.
This will flatten the ‘effected’ layer to the new blank layer. Now delete the effected layer and Studio Pro should see it the same (if named the same)
Hope that helps.
Also keep a version of the file with the effects live for future changes.

Yeah – I almost NEVER want something pasted to be offset, yet in nearly all programs it defaults to it – silly-ness I tell ya.
Glad I could help!
