    For what it’s worth,

I have been using external drives as low as 4200 RPM for more than 5 years now with no issues other than they are slower so the response and renders take longer.

As far as that goes, currently I am editing on an Acer Aspire One WinXP netbook and it is amazing. And yes, external drives are part of the workflow there too.

For best results I have found that putting the source footage on the C Drive is optimum. And then render the final out to the external. Either way, make sure the the Preview renders that Premiere creates go to a different drive than the drive with the source footage.

    Good Luck!

  • with 12 gigs of ram I don’t think it will be a problem.

are you saying that the 300 gigs of video are all to be used in a single project? also, is this standard def or hi def?

Has anybody been able to confirm that this line of Canon camera is supported by Premiere?

I am using Premiere Pro 2 at home and CS3 at a school I teach at.

The school is able to use 3 of these cams on loan from a local agency.

A question for Mike Velte: You mention in this thread to set the DV settings in the camera to be able to capture in DV even though the footage was shot in HDV. I could find nothing in the PDF manual to make this happen. Do you have any further info/insight. I did find some info stating that Premiere does not support the AVCHD codec. If this is the case, which codecs/cameras does it work with as far as HDV is concerned?

As these are not my cameras and I am only using what is provided, I am trying to obtain either a simple work-around, or info on where we need to go next!

    Thanks! Jay

  • OK, do you recall any experiences with several apps or multitasking that you have done?

This is exactly what I needed to know!

As it is, I am doing more and more graphic design and web work these days.

I am also finding a niche in being portable, both for ease of working as well as for convenience for my clients. They love that I can just pop in and SHOW them an update. I love that I can work for 20 minutes here and 15 minutes there while waiting to pick up the kids or whatever…

The issue is that to increase my workflow even more and produce more at the end of the week by making my use of time on the go more effective. That said, I am thinking that for specifically using this machine for Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver and Audition would be an unbelievable advantage. My 15.4″ HP’s hinges have given out and I almost replaced it with the model of 14″ Acer that I bought for my daughter.

I may grab one of these later today.

Before I do, would you be willing to do one test for me? I am curious about using Dreamweaver and Photoshop simultaneously. I am constantly jumping back and forth between these two on the HP (which by the way is a 2 Ghz AMD with only 1.25 Gigs of ram, so it isn’t that much different than the Netbook).

So, I guess what I am asking is for your opinion on multitasking on this machine!

Thanks so much for the response.

    Steven!

Thank You for your quick response.

I got the transition thing cleared up but could use a little more info on the audio issue. I also have a little more info for you on exactly what I am doing.

First: I have noticed that I only have this track problem with mono clips.

Second: I found in the prefs a setting for audio clip allocation with separate controls for the number of tracks allowed for: mono, stereo, and 5.1. The default was mono (o) which I changed to 3. I also did the same for stereo; not working in any 5.1. I closed APP and reopened but did not see any changes.

Third: I am using a combination of mono and stereo mics in the same project (wired lav is mono, shotgun is stereo).

could you elaborate a little more on your comment about “it being easy enough”? I think that was your quote…

    Thanks again, Jay

Also, is there anything that is quirky to APP that is truly unique to it and different from most other NLE’s?
