  • [tom adams] “i’ve batch exported about 10 sequences at once…flawlessly…it’s a beautiful thing.”

Cool, that’s what I love about the cow… even if you’ve been doing it for longer than you care to remember, you’ll always learn new things…

  • Hi Herbie,

I’m guessing you mean you have a whole load of sequences that you need to export for a number of different uses.

I don’t think FCP has a ‘batch export’ that will enable multiple sequences to be exported. However, exporting reference movie ( and not making it self-contained) will enable you to take this in to compressor – you can then set compressor to export as many flavours as you need. Save your export settings to use again for a quick turnaround, if you’re talking about an action you’ll repeat many times.

I’m interested in this too… looking seriously at the moment at the Multibridge as an alternate to a Kona 3 or LHe.

One thing I can’t seem to get a definitive answer to… the BM website seems to suggest that the MB Pro and Eclipse can up-rez SD and 720HD to 1080i… if this is the case I think that would be the clincher for me. All the functionality I’d need for a lot less than the AJA equivalent.

Anyone shed any light on this? Maybe BM themselves?

    Rafael,

Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your poiint of view) I’m on FCS2, with all updates , the latest Tiger and QT.

So that’s not it… ahh well, I’lll keep trying. The sooner I get my Multibridge installed the better.

    David,

I’m well aware that DV is lower and any other SD is upper… and that’s why FCP sticks the shift fields filter on all the clips. I was wondering if the act of rendering the slomo in the SD sequence made the field order funky, but as I stated I’ve tried most every combo I can think of regarding field order and it still happens.

I’ll give your suggestion of recreating the slomo in the SD sequence a try and report back, will be interesting to see if it has any effect…

    Wolf,

If you’re using an internal drive then even moving to something like a G-Tech G-SATA or, if you can stump up the 2kUSD, a G-SpeedES will make a very noticeable difference, even if you’re only doing HDV/DV. 300 gigs is small nowadays, and as Walter states, filling them up will make a big difference in performance. If you’re on a really tight budget, a decent FW800 drive will make a difference (you’d need to move some of your media across and relink it) but, as you’re HDV (and using the FW bus for ingest of media) I’d be inclined to move to SATA – buy yourself a SATA card and external drive unit.

The Quad is a fine machine, and in everyday use I notice little difference between it (I’m doing a big edit for a client on one) and my MacPro. Indeed, for some things the Quad is noticeably faster. I wouldn’t thing about junking it for a long time yet.

    HTH,

Sorry Andy, brain f**t there. I meant to address my post to Rick.

    Andy,

Use the KISS principle like others have suggested. Treat HDV exactly as you would DV, use an appropriate HDV deck with the correct Easy Setup and you’ll be fine.

Edit away just as you would any other media.

If you’re mastering back to HDV, you’ll need to give yourself time for the ridiculous HDV conform process, that can take a while for a long-form programme. Like others have stated, I jump to another codec for output if you’re mastering straight to DVD or to any ‘pro’ tape format. If you were using your IoLA to go to Beta, for instance, and your drives were up to it, I’d create a new 16:9 SD sequence using either 8 or 10 bit uncompressed and drop my edited clips in that. Check that FCP has resized them correctly, render and edit to tape.

HDV (as DV) is pants for rendering graphics and compositing, so if you’ve lots of this I’d look in to a similar route.

    Jason

OK update time… just figured that the CC effect only goes red (unrendered) whilst the scopes are open. Odd behaviour considering they’re supposed to be realtime scopes…close the scopes window and presto! green bar again.

    Another feature, I guess!

October 2, 2007 at 6:56 am in reply to: Quicktime BMD codec export query

    Hi Rafael

Unfortunately the client is insisting. I can;t find another way to make it work, so Export using FCP conversion it has to be – for now, at least. They use the free BM codec so that’s a fixed thing too.

Any thoughts as to the export from HDV timeline vs export from a 10-bit one?

    Jason
