Kona TV works great, but I never use it. I need my audio to play through my Built-In Line Out and not through the Kona Card. When I play QuickTimes with audio thru Kona TV I get no sound.
That’s why I stick with QuickTime.
It’s funny QuickTime will play fine when Fit to Screen(CMD+3) is on, but once Full Screen is on it crashes.

Change Color should work for you.
Adjust the effects ‘Lightness Transform’ to -100.

You can set up AE with two(or more) composition windows.
You can have the ‘main comp’ with the ‘precomposed comp’ and matte open, and you can have the ‘precomposed comp’ open. Any changes you do in the precomp will appear matted in the main comp.

You can fake the look you ar looking for by sandwiching the sphere in between two cylinders. In the effects panel, tell the top cylinder to render outside and the bottom to render inside.

The tiff downloads include alphas. All you will have to do is adust the levels or tint it to make the land black.

In finder select your psd file right click and select “Get Info”. Under the “Open With:” pane select Photoshop in the drop down.
If you want all psd’s to open in Photoshop simply click the “Change All…” button in the same pane.

Add the Grow Bounds effect before the Radial Blur.
or
Precompose the picture into a larger sized comp. And apply the Radial Blur to the comp.

If you are on OSX go to Library/Preferences/Adobe/After Effects/7.0 It should be there.
