When the import file dialouge box comes up change the pulldown from ‘footage’ to ‘composition’. You can then specify the footage dimensions to be the size of the layer or the document.

Your work area is confined to one frame.
Move the current time indicator(playhead) to where you want your RAM preview to start and press ‘b’ then move the playhead where you want it to end and press ‘n’.
Your RAM preview should work now.

Try making an hourglass gradient ramp and use dispalcement map on your footage. In AE 7 you can precompose the gradient and turn on collapse transformations to move the gradient to match the woman.
Aharon Rabinowitz has created some amazing tutorials which go into depth on the displacement map effect. Check out all three.

Try adjusting the footage.
Duplicate your footage.
Use levels, hue and saturation, any color correction effect to make a good contrast between the hand and background.
Precompose the footage with the effects.
Then try tracking the new composition.
Once a good track is made you can hide the new composition.Jason McClellan

Goto ‘File/Scripts/DemoPallete.jsx’ This opens up a little window, click on the Reverse Layer Order Button. The button reverses all the layers. If you need to reverse just a section of the layers pre-compose them.
