  • Delete leaves question mark

Posted by Jason Mcclellan on July 21, 2006 at 11:21 pm

When I use the forward delete button on a text layer, the text is replaced with a question mark instead of being removed(deleted).

How can I fix this annoying problem?

I’m using AE7 on a Mac OSX. I do not run into this problem in any other applications, incuding AE6.5.

    Thanks

    I have the same problem.

Do you have a US keyboard ? Mine is Belgian/French layout.

I have an US layout. Standard Mac keyboard that comes with the G5.

I noticed the ‘help’ button is right above the forward delete button. Are you sure you’re hitting the right button? I know it sounds stupid, but it happened to me a couple of times, and could probably happen to anyone.

I have noticed that problem too, recently. Can you use the backspace key, preceded by an arrow key to move the cursor?

Yeah, it’s dumb. Sorry I don’t have a real answer.

Say … do you have Extensis Suitcase installed?

I experimented a little, and even if you delete every instance of (Delete) and (Fwddel) from the AE shortcuts pref file, the ? still appears,
After copy-pasting it into BBedit, turns out it’s not a real question mark character, but another escaped non-printable character.
I tried different keyboard-layouts, no avail.

In other words: I’m pretty sure it’s a bona fide adobe bug

Is this PC & Mac, anyone ?
