April 28, 2014 at 2:45 pm in reply to: BRU PE says tape is full…when it shouldn’t be!Yes, the problem was that the record heads on the LTO deck were going bad.
Apparently if there’s write errors, the data gets re-written but the bad blocks are still on the tape (or something like that)
We replaced the heads and all worked well. BRU support diagnosed the problem.

I need to get this figured out so we decided it was a good time to upgrade to 3.0 and get some pro tech support involved…I’ll follow up with your support guys.

Hey Andrew,
I’ve been using Red Cine X to create the Quicktime proxy files before I import the shots into CatDV.
Yes. it’s an extra step, but it renders very fast.Rolf, sorry I missed your earlier reply!

June 14, 2010 at 6:29 pm in reply to: Looking for a good data tape backup for FCP/Mac ProWe’ve been using an HP LTO4 (1760 I think) with BRU PE as the software interface…it’s been working well and is pretty easy to use.
We also use CATDV to catalog all of our RED footage…CATDV is great as it can generate a small proxy so when we archive the footage to LTO and erase the job, we can still browse the proxies of the raw footage.
Figuring out an effective backup strategy and workflow takes some time and it seems like everyone needs something a bit different…

November 2, 2009 at 4:19 pm in reply to: DDR/tapeless playback options for broadcast? Thanks everyone.
The KiPro is an interesting option…it would be great to keep everything ProRes. I notice the 422 control isn’t active yet, but I’ve got some time so maybe it would get there.

Woo-hoo! You’re right!
I just installed the update yesterday and there’s a lot of nice little things…well, little things that were really stupid in the first place but are finally fixed.
Speed changes that don’t ripple the timeline! Add multiple transitions at once!
I can honestly say, since installing the upgrade I’ve wanted to punch the screen a good 10% less…LOL.

I had forgotten about the RAID 50 option, which is how mine is striped.

“Well, yes… but I have to see an idea finished on screen before I have any idea what it’s going to look like.”
If I had a nickel for everytime I’ve heard that…
Why are these people always the final decision makers?
Why? Why? Why?Sorry Todd, you touched a nerve with that one…

October 25, 2007 at 1:47 pm in reply to: FCP plug-ins wish list: which are your “must haves” ?A few weeks ago, we bought Noise Industries FX factory Pro.
It’s got some really nice stuff in it. You can download the whole package and try it first if you like. Our mac is an older dual 2.0, but the speed of the plugins is still impressive. I think they’re all GPU accelerated.
Anyway, the whole thing was only $379 from Toolfarm…which by the way, sent me a sale email today offering the whole thing for $199! To me, that’s a no brainer.
Figures I missed the sale. Oh well.
