You need to to “buy it” through the small business
center. When you add it to your cart, the discount
will show up…Jason

Thanks Floh…I don’t really plan on selling it, but I owe a former co-owner a third of
it’s present value. He’s aware it’s out of production, so hopefully we can all agree on a value.I’m actually dreading the day we switch over to HD…I’m going to miss all that realtime compositing power.

When editing to tape on a 930, you have to set the playback offset to zero frames. The canvas and output to the deck will be out of sync, but it will lay to tape fine.
If the 5 frame offset is used like normal, the deck acts like it can’t see a signal and won’t kick into record mode. At least that’s my take on it…
Hope this helps…

It’s been a long time since I dealt with this, but I’m pretty sure the problem
is the frame offset that you need to set for the IO. (5 frames?)Use the Panasonice deck setup, but change your playback offset to zero. The canvas and
output will be out of sync, but it will lay to tape fine.I’m not in front of our system right now, but I think this was the ultimate solution. We also
use a 930 deck…Jason

Oh…and we use an AJA IO with our FCP. Not doing HD yet, but when we do, I’ll buy another AJA product.
I have nothing bad to say about the other choices, but when we had some issues, AJA’s tech support was
awesome.Jason

Hi Elliot,
We run both an 844x and FCP suite…our FCP is on a dual 2.0 G5, so it’s a fairly fast computer.
While FCP is nice, it’s not even close to the 844x as far as speed and interactivity…in fact, I’d say it’s comparing apples to oranges. If you’re talking pretty straightforward editing, then FCP is fine. But if you’re hoping to match 844x capabilities with layering, real time transfer modes, etc., it’s not
even close…not to mention FCP slows down even more in 10 bit modes.I don’t want to seem like I’m bashing FCP (here in a FCP forum), but if you’re used to an 844x, I’d REALLY suggest sitting down at a FCP station for a few days. I’m not saying FCP can’t do the same things…but if I’m under the gun with a client sitting behind me, I’ll take the 844 anyday. But of course, it all depends on what type of work you’re trying to do.
I’m just down the road in Tallahassee…I read a lot of your posts in the 844 forum when we were looking to purchase ours, so if I can return the favor with more information, just give me a ring.

November 3, 2005 at 8:34 pm in reply to: (Off Topic) Whats your Music Library of choice?I’ve looked at a lot of libraries, but keep coming back to Firstcom. They have a huge selection and it’s now all downloadable on their website. I think they have over 10,000 cuts. I also like how they database their cuts…it’s pretty easy to find everything.
We have a moderately sized Firstcom library and have small collections from Five Alarm, Extreme and Blue Fuse to supplement. The Firstcom is a blanket monthly rate while the others we use on a per drop basis.
Hope this helps…

Unfortunately, we’ve had a little problem with our IO. After about a year of use, the composite input quit working. AJA imediately overnighted a replacement. 3 months later, the power supply seemed to die in the new unit. AJA imediately overnighted another replacement. This one has been humming along for 2 weeks, no problems…
So, although we seem to have had some bad luck, the awesome support had certainly made up for it. Whenever we move towards HD, I’m sure we’ll purchase a Kona 2, largely based on the support we’ve received.
