Any chance for Epic .R3d support in Catdv?

I use CatDv to build preview movies of our RED footage prior to it getting archived to LTO tape.

We used to just import the proxies from our RED One, but Epic does not generate proxy files…I know we could generate them through RedCineX, but would prefer to avoid the extra step if possible.

    Thanks!

I’m not very familiar with the RED workflow but I thought you could install the QuickTime REDCODE codec and then build proxies from the QT reference movies?

    Same question here.

So is there no native R3D support? As Jason mentioned, the Epic does not create proxy files. When I try to import an R3D directly, CatDV says “Failed to show media (Xuggle not installed)“.

    Hey Andrew,

I’ve been using Red Cine X to create the Quicktime proxy files before I import the shots into CatDV.
Yes. it’s an extra step, but it renders very fast.

Rolf, sorry I missed your earlier reply!

    Thanks Jason.

I did a test and the proxies are produced very quickly in Red Cine X. I assume it’s just re-wrapping the media into a QT container.

Perhaps this feature will be included in a future CatDV update.
