There are separate pots for recording and monitoring, so you can play with the monitoring pots and it won’t affect the recording. Let us know how the Beachtek works out.

Sure you do; “it is a simple matter of turning down one pot and turning up another to monitor whichever channel you wish.”

You can listen to both channels simultaneously, but they both be in both ears.

[Mark Suszko] “You are in Manhattan, and charging less than what a street dog vendor makes. No wonder you get plenty of business!”
She’s getting between $66 and $250 per hour. That’s pretty cool if a hot dog vendor can do better than that!

[Benjamin Reichman] “Great stuff. Can I ask you what lenses you used, and how the hockey player hit shot was done?”
Thanks, Ben! Since we had to move quickly, I used a single lens for the whole thing; I think it was my 28mm f2.8 manual Nikon. For the hockey hit, we had a couple of pads down on the ice. The actual hit wasn’t as hard as I was hoping for, but I tried to make up for it in post. I sped up the hit a bit and added the earthquake effect to give it some impact. I scaled the clip up just enough to allow the earthquake effect to do its thing without seeing the edges of the frame. Scaling the clip was not a problem because I shot in 1920×1080 and edited in 1280×720, so I had lots of extra resolution to work with. I topped it off with some sound effects to help “sell” it.

[Simon Ubsdell] “Here’s the “Motion Blur” filter published from Motion 5″
Thanks, Simon! I’m done with the current project, but I’ll test this out on the next one.

[Andy Neil] “What specifically are you trying to do?”
I’m animating a hockey stick that come swinging through the scene. I tried an export from AE with motion blur and I couldn’t tell what is was (too blurry!) so I’m sticking with the original animation in FCPX.

[Mark Morache] “Do you have all of your sfx on an external volume? Do they just go away when you don’t have your media drive hooked up, and appear back when the drive is mounted? Or do you have a standalone edit station?
My problem is that I use my laptop for personal use as well as all my editing. I also have several external drives, separated by clients. It’s easy enough to use up a few dozen gb on a drive, and keep all of my sfx on all of my drives, but the drives all have different names.”
I have a “Media” drive that has all my SFX, stock footage, etc. I’m on a Macbook Pro, but I have an external, sledless esata bay for swapping out project drives and an esata toaster for plugging in my media drive, or whatever else. If the media drive is not mounted, the Music and Sound browser will just give me an ‘unavailable’ error message when I click on a sound file.

In your duplicated project, get rid of any clips you don’t want and export the rest.

[Stan Johanssen] ” Are you talking about something like the “earthquake” effect in FCPX?”
Stan, that’s perfect! I searched on “wiggle” and “shake”, but came up empty. “Earthquake” was what I needed. Thanks!
