So far I have just used the native AVCHD files (they get rewrapped as .mov’s) from my GH2 for editing. The quality of the end product is not going to change between native files and optimized media (ProRes) unless perhaps you are doing heavy color correction and/or compositing. In that case ProRes is likely better. The big difference is file size. The optimized ProRes files will be several times larger than the native files, so you need more storage space and possibly more bandwidth. If you have that, then there is the potential for even better realtime playback.

I’ve had a Promise Pegasus R6 for a couple of months now and I’ve run into a few issues, but nothing that has kept me from making good use of it. My Thunderbolt/display chain is: Macbook Pro > Pegasus R6 > Dell 24″ (via mini-displayport to DVI adapter).
1. It took 25 hours to initialize before I could use it (not the advertised 10 hours).
2. Things need to be powered up in the correct order to keep it happy. I have everything plugged in, then power up the Pegasus R6 first. When that boots, I power on the Macbook Pro. When shutting down, I power off the Pegasus last. When I tried to eject the Pegasus and shut it down while the Macbook Pro was running, something got corrupted and I had to use DiskWarrior to fix it.
3. If my Mac goes to sleep, the Dell freezes. I use the screensaver now instead of letting the system sleep.

My Pegasus R6 took 25 hours to initiliaze, which was concerning because the instructions said 10 hours. It’s been working well.

I did yesterday. I just heard back from Gregory. He sent me a new translation of my XML that he made with a new build of 7toX. It appears to be working perfectly now. Everything started up right away when I loaded the fcpxml he sent. Whatever issue was causing FCPX to hang before seems to have been resolved! They submitted the new build of 7toX to Apple yesterday, so it should be available soon. Kudos to Philip and Greg at Intelligent Assistance. They are working hard to make this a really solid solution.

I let it run overnight and the background task “Rendering > Loading Custom” is at the same place it was 12 hours ago. The aliases in the Event Folder have not changed either.

Should be plenty of space. I haven’t tried tried trashing prefs & stuff yet…

I usually go through and keyword the footage first to organize it. When you set a keyword, it creates a keyword collection which is like a bin w/subclips. To further narrow down what I will use in the edit, I go into the keyword collections and set favorites. Then I throw some favorites on the timeline and start editing.
