    That did it! I see the previous line is still intact with parenthesis in it. One of these days, I’m sure expressions will begin to sink in 😀 Thanks Dan!

  • Some have tried. I didn’t do a very thorough search, but I’m sure something’s out there that might help.

  • See, that’s what I used to feel like too. If you check the box to ensure that you KEEP your preferences when uninstalling, then you’ll also keep your plugins, scripts, and presets. At least, that’s what’s supposed to happen 😉

    Glad to hear everything’s back in order. I know and feel your frustration.

    An even easier solution would be to “release” the clipping path for each letter, delete the clip shapes, ungroup everything, then on the layer stack in AI, select the top layer (NOT the circle) and then select the context menu and then “release to layers”. I made a tut on that here https://vimeo.com/50564308

    Then import that AI file as a composition in AE and select “Layer Size” for footage dimensions. It would be wise to name your layers in AI or AE at some point.

    Select all the layers that are the color shapes for each letter and click the “Preserve Underlying Transparency” button for all of them (it’s under the switches and modes column). If you need more help from there, let me know.

  • You know, the old “try reinstalling” adage isn’t as bad as it used to be. You can uninstall the program while maintaining your presets, plugins, scripts, and preferences. If resetting your pref file didn’t work, then reinstalling might be the answer.

    Have you tried Polyline? It basically sets this kind of thing up for you in a snap. It’s by Motion Botique and a pretty powerful little tool. https://vimeo.com/124596281

    That did it, except I also wanted to randomize the offset value so I ended up with this. Thanks to your write-up on your site, I’m sort of kinda cementing this stuff.

    seedRandom(1,true);
    random(0,360)+time*random(25,35);

    I was using this to get a random offset value with the time value. I’d like to randomize the time value somewhere between 25-35. Thanks for taking a look, Dan!

    seedRandom(1,true);
    random(0,360)+time*30;
