Most filters don’t translate over to Motion from an FCP roundtrip (only the Smoothcam and 1 other I believe actually does)… don’t ask why. You could always export your FCP nest as an animation, then import into Motion. But I agree with Noah, you’re better off doing your keying in FCP or another program. I like the Red Giant plugin Primatte Keyer Pro for FCP.

Check the dock and make sure you didn’t simply minimize them. Double-click on your sequence in the browser to reload it. Do you have “Spaces” activated? Sometimes my windows accidentally traverse spaces… hit F-13 to see if that happened.

You can drag and drop the “Paramaters” from the Text>Format/Style/Layout tabs onto the Preview well (the little image icon) in the Layers tab… basically, copying/pasting attributes of 1 text layer onto another text layer.
You can select more than 1 at a time to drag and drop – just hold down the Apple key (this should work even if you toggle between the 3 subtabs).

… or instead of cutting frames into the nest (which will result in at least one of your two nests being shortened in clip length (and may mess up your timing – or the effect you were going for)… you can always extend the handles of the original sequence you nested — making your newly updated nest a bit longer with more wiggle room to add that transition.

The Pros definitely outweigh the Cons… If Autosave saves you once, it’s done its job. Its more likely to salvage a project that has been corrupted, I’ve never heard of it actually being the cause of a file corruption… and the other argument (Autosave takes up hard drive space)… that makes little sense, the project files are only a few hundred kilobytes (about the size of word document).

Yeah, I disagree with some of those aforementioned films as well. “There Will Be Blood” is a great movie. It does not have bad editing, it just has slow pacing. Paul Thomas Anderson is famous for his character development and nice slow tracking shots. All of his movies have this type of pacing, and maybe that’s not one’s taste, but I’d hardly put PTA in the “movies w/ bad editing” category.

I also noticed a bad edit in “The Departed”… I think it was a continuity problem, where there was no shot to give a proper match cut.
Tarantino’s “Planet Terror” (1st of the Grindhouse movies) has some very intentional bad editing… makes you think 70’s B movie. It’s so bad that it’s great!

Roger is talking about the Red Giant plugin, not the Primatte keyer that’s built into Motion… they are different. Primatte Keyer Pro is definitely worth investing in if you have the $$.
I’ve used the native filters in FCP/Motion & Keylight in AE, and I prefer (by far) the Red Giant plugin. It slows your render times 2x, but it takes seconds to set up and pull a key… and does incredible work on poor footage.
If you have Lynda.com there are some very useful demos that compare this plug-in against other like keyers. Check this out if you can (you can do a 1 day free trial if it’s worth your research time).

You are most likey going to have to rotoscope… unless the background outside the green screen area may be another solid color you can key from.
Use the bezier mask tool, and keyframe manually. Or reshoot if you can. Or scale in on your shots if you can afford to.
