Ive had this issue as well…so I want to follow the thread. Answers I’ve been given are – don’t edit hdv – and my raid is too full.

If you are going to post on the cow, you’ll need to get use to dave’s sarcastic and sometimes aggressively positioned responses. I’ve gotten used to them!
I fought with the same issue of 480 and 486. I still don’t fully understand it…thank god I’m with a company and fully in HD now!

Ive experienced this when capturing to a codec that was in “trial” mode. It was functioning as a watermark. Just a thought.

I use the XDCAM transfer import function…which does NOT transcode, but wraps the video in a different container than the native MXF format from the disc. I can shoot in 3 formats on the disc – 422 50 / 420 HQ / and 420 SP. The 422 50 comes in with an “Apple XDCAM HD codec” but the 420 SP comes in with that HDV codec.
I need to figure out how to come off the xdcam disc with a less compressed codec, but there aren’t any options coming through XDCAM transfer.

16 gig of ram…not sure of g5…but it’s 8 core, purchased highest end Mac u could buy 1 year ago. Regarding codec, that is the container I get when I rewrap the mxf files off the xdcam disc with the 420sp setting on a PDW700.

I have an MXO2 with max and I love the rendering time of h264…it spoils you and makes you angry when you have to run a compression job on a system without max…the speed is significant.
I only use output to an FSI monitor…and the HDSDI looks great. Balanced audio sounds great as well.
