Thought I’d update this post…
Matrox came out with new software (v2.0) that enables output of the system audio through the matrox hardware…similar to what we’ve discussed here.

Sorry to keep this going, but if this footage is interlaced, wouldn’t a scale potentially throw the interlacing off?

If the black bars on the side and bottom don’t “bother” you for web output, then just crop the footage to see black canvas behind…and you’ll have a nice black border around your entire video.

Jerry’s response about scaling or cropping are the 2 ways to get rid of it, he didn’t say it was perfect, just the 2 ways to do it.

Footage is progressive…I’ll get clarification on codec.
I have alot of HD and SOME SD (sd is widescreen).
I’d like to have the footage retain the same length…it would look strange otherwise, so I’m going to use compressor with frame control on.

I’m interested as well…I’m in agreement that u cant transcode xdcam footage in log and transfer.

You should use the function – Send to Compressor … if you are on v7 it works in the background and you don’t have to create any intermediate files…and you can continue to edit on the same sequence you are making a transcode of.

Let me be clear, I’m not advocating for the use of Animation codec…simply that when forced to render the still frame the scale to 100% looked fine, where as when set to prores…it didn’t because it was giving me a “preview” with the green bar above the timeline.

I think I can shed some light with a personal experience that gave me some insight into how FCP works with JPG’s.
First off, work at the highest video resolution available…HD 1920×1080.
If you have the timeline codec set to ProRes…you’ll have to render large JPGs that are imported into that timeline.
I was bringing in a photo that was something like 5000 pixels wide, FCP would scale it down to 20 something percent to fit it to canvas. Then when I would scale it to 100%, it would be pixelated. The bar above the timeline was green, so it was only showing a preview at lowered resolution. If I changed the sequence codec to Animation it would force render that frame on preview and it would look fine…so my experience taught me that your preview is just that, a preview…not final until it is rendered.
