How do you get a FCP 7 sequence to CS3 After Effects

Automatic Duck isn’t cheap and there may be issues going from a new version of FCP to the old version of CS3.

It might be better for both cost and features to upgrade to CS5 which is supposed to open FCP files or XMLs. I haven’t used it but it is a touted feature.
Someone who has tried it might like to comment further.

You must of read my mind Michael. I think I will upgrade to CS5 instead. I have been exporting QT movies from FCP and importing them into AE but It has some limitations. I’m not at a level where I need the raw files yet but I hope to be soon.

I couldn’t agree more with you Dave, clearly AE is the standard which is why I’m trying to get familiar with it. I just can’t put the money out now that is necessary to transport the sequence over. Hopefully by the time I feel comfortable with AE they will have worked out the issues with CS5 and FCP. I thought I read somewhere that theirs still some minor problems with it.

I tried the popcorn link provided as well and I got it to work once, then when I tried it again a few times over and the same files I once opened were grayed out for some reason.

If you upgrade from CS3 to CS5, Adobe dings you with a substantial penalty for having cheated them out of their CS4 upgrade loot last year.

Look for resellers that still have CS4 in stock (look for an ad from Videoguys on this site, you may be pleasantly surprised by what you see in it), and buy and register the CS4 before July 12, then request a free upgrade from CS4 to CS5 from Adobe before July 27.

Do check these dates yourself, just in case of any changes!

I did the above last month, and got those dates at the time.

And the CS5 AE is a good step up from CS3…

But I’m going to see if I can find one.

This kind of complimentary upgrade is designed to soothe those who paid a lot of money for a full or upgrade version just before a new generation, and to prevent resellers from having to destroy obsolete inventory.

This sort of deal is generally available from the time of announcement to a short time after the new version is actually shipping.
