I actually didn’t record it…but just curious, what do you use as a Reel? I made a notation that it was a live recording and what device was used…

    Delete unused checked.

No REEL number….added one, and BLAM…shane, you are a genius. Thanks so much.

No REEL because it came from a live recording into none other than my MXO2 🙂

Thanks, I can figure out the rest…

Matrox compress hd…comes with several presets, do a send to compressor…it will transcode faster than real time while letting you continue to work in fcp.

Zane, how much u wanna bet this is a 23.98 vs 23.976 issue?

Your renderings out of afx should be a frame rate of 23.976, not 23.98. Are they?

    I’m VERY interested in this…

Let me make sure I understand what you are saying…I’m sort of new to mac.

I simply insert each of the FCS discs and copy ONE single file (DMG) over to a Firewire drive? Then when I want to install the suite, I mount each of the DMG’s representing each disc…?

Should I do this with the OS installer? Can I run this same process to install multiple machines with different Serials for FCS?

How do you guys keep things like custom compressor settings, episode settings…etc? Go into each piece of software and back them up individually?

    Thanks for the insight…

[Steve Clay] “when I bring the raw GoPro footage into FCP, the sequence settings automatically change to 1080i.” First off, 1080i is the frame size, and it’s a bit antiquated language…check the setting below that that says “field dominance”. That should say “none”

And, this may just be my workflow…but FCP isn’t a program that is going to read this kind of information from a compressed video file very accurately.

If you transcode the footage through compressor, you can do a “pass-through” of all these settings. (frame size, frame rate, field dominance) if you just set compressor to transcode to ProRes (I use proxy because the bit rate is close to the source bitrate) and do a “same as source” on all the aforementioned parameters…that will give you an accurate “editable” file to take into FCP and have the sequence match.

Animation codec in fcp isn’t real time…not even in pause. even if bar over top is green doesn’t mean it’s at full res. U need to force render to see full res

Buy fcp7 it has prores 4444 which carries alpha in real time…it’s worth the upgrade price

surely you aren’t editing in the h264 codec? I use this camera all the time…I transcode to ProRes Proxy, then edit.

Also, you are saying 1080i…but the gopro doesn’t shoot interlaced…it’s progressive (I believe it’s Psf)

(check out this video I shot of my kids with the GoPro)

Silly? Well…that is only ONE piece of software…so add in office suite, cs4, qt7, the OS, and about 20 other programs…that is much more than 6hrs.

And I guess I just expect my dual processor 8 core computer with 16gb of ram to be really fast. But I guess I expected flying cars by now 🙂

I’m kind of in the same boat although I’ll need my sys admin to install programs like the adobe suite…I’m interested in hearing the responses…

The biggest issue for me is that it took me 6 hours last time to install the FCP suite. That is a ton of time to eat up not getting work done.
