So do you find that most people on PC can read h264? When I run into people who can’t, I suggest for people to download VLC, seems to be easy and very light…what do you do?

And noone mentioned the updated “send to compressor” function added in FCP7. You can send to compressor (and with the telestream plugin installed, actually compress with Episode) WHILE continuing to edit in FCP…and transcoding in Compressor. If you use the CompressHD or MXO2 products with Max, you can transcode in amazing speeds…that is awesome…
I don’t create DVD’s anymore, so the DVDSP isn’t even an issue…do people still deliver on DVD? Seems like a waste since most of us these days are acquiring in some form of HD.

But isn’t the Canon h264 codec running at around 12-13Mbps? If that is the case, then wouldn’t the maximum quality that file will ever be is limited to that bitrate?
It would be like taking VHS to Digibeta, it’s only going to look as good as it’s lowest quality format, which in the Canon’s case is the acquisition format.

Also, wanted to mention that all I had to do was reconnect audio to the new clip and everything worked fine. It’s all good now, just curious what happened.

I guess that was an option, I’ slime to pick ur guys brains about this, cause I don’t understand reconnecting or media manager very well.
My process (which worked) was to select the clip in the timeline (multiple selections) and media manage…select copy, delete unused with 1 sec handles…it created new media. I then right click on clip (linked with audio) and “make independent clip”, then match frame to source…not one in browser, so I create new one…right click, reconnect to the new media. I dd this for all clips I copied. I closed fcp to remove drive where original clips were, relaunched…and video was good…but audio was offline.
Where did I go wrong?
