When I installed Xpress DV on my machine, I was told by the tech guy that AVID didn’t support XP Home. That may be your issue as well. Any thoughts?

Totally off subject, GREAT looking city!

I have been trying to accomplish the same type of look, using Illustrator and solids, but I can’t get my city to look right. It just looks cheesy.

Could you email me and give me some suggestions on things to do/not do to make it look like yours?

    Thanks,

I think the stroke option is the best one…I tried the glow, it was pretty difficult to get the desired results. And the Grid didn’t work, because I’m using AE 5.0 so I can’t select the number of vertical lines, and can’t space them far enough.

The stroke worked immediately when I applied it, exactly what I needed. [although it composites the stroke on top of the layer, and expands it from the center of the mask line out] I guess I could make a new mask, expand it and then apply the stroke to that one…therefore not cutting off any of my original image.

    I love this program! There’s ALWAYS a way…

Snap to the current [blue] time marker.

You have to have the current time marker ON an audio keyframe to manipulate it by either dragging the marker up or down with the mouse -or- by using the Automation Gain slider…right?
(I know you can also set in/out marks to manipulate multiple keyframes — by using mouse only…or adjusting one with automation gain and then set levels in->out in the automation gain tool)

But back to my first question, is there a keyboard shortcut to “goto” next or previous audio keyframe??

As I said in the original post, I am VERY new to the realm of 3D in AFX…I was trying to get a really good hold on the 2D side of things until I opened the door to 3D…but this project really called for something like what I have created.

And yes, I did rotate each layer individually, I have never used *Parenting*…maybe this project would have been the right time to do that. I am still very new to this program. I don’t get to use it for all our projects, just occasionally.

    Thanks alot guys,

The rotation, NOT orientation advice did help…thank you very much.

As far as creating a camera, I had never done this before…and I used a preset for 35mm, and created several different cameras. There didn’t seem to be any difference between any of the cameras I created (as far as the default view), my view looked the same unless I turned on “depth of field”. Is there any magic to creating these…I can imagine that there could probably be an entire forum for this subject…but could you give a short explanation?

Man…calling Dr. Katz “that OLD TV show” Am I really getting that old?!?!

The actual terminology used to describe this effect is, I believe…”squigglevision”. Pioneered / Developed by, I believe, Tom Snyder.

I have reasearched this as well, and I found that the *wiggle* parameter in Vector paint does a really good job (the best I have found so far) of mimicing the effect. But I haven’t found a way to get anything other than hand drawn shapes into the vector art editor.

That *jiggle* effect from the Alien Skin link does a good job of replicating it…but I think if you check out that wiggle parameter in the vector paint…you’ll be more impressed with the “individual randomness” that it provides. That jiggle effect seems to move more of the segment of a letter, than squiggling each pixel of the line.

Maybe I am being to picky though!!

I tried the turbulent displace plug-in…and the effect is not exactly what I was trying to get. It needs to be more “individually shaky” (in regards to the characters). I can do this by effecting each letter…but it doesn’t create the *jagged* choppy effect I can achieve in vector paint wiggle. I think the best option may be to create the look in illustrator…export 10 different frames…then import and repeat the frames.

    Any other ideas?

    Thanks for responding…

Really, I am less interested in achieving the *exact* squigglevision look, which took hours of hand-drawn animation. And more interested in just getting “close enough”…Like I said, I have achieved the exact look I am going for with handwritten letters using Vector Paint, I just want them to be more *font looking* than handwritten (using a distressed font…). So my initial question is…is there a way to apply paths or something in the Vector Paint editor?

And secondly, the text animation presets you speak of…are those included in the production bundle of 6.0? How do I access those?
