    Thanks for responding…

Really, I am less interested in achieving the *exact* squigglevision look, which took hours of hand-drawn animation. And more interested in just getting “close enough”…Like I said, I have achieved the exact look I am going for with handwritten letters using Vector Paint, I just want them to be more *font looking* than handwritten (using a distressed font…). So my initial question is…is there a way to apply paths or something in the Vector Paint editor?

And secondly, the text animation presets you speak of…are those included in the production bundle of 6.0? How do I access those?

I am sorry…I accidentally put this post in the wrong forum. I meant to put it in After Effects. Thanks for your response…”punk and bloat” did help, that is a cool effect.

That was exactly what I was trying to bypass, “create a new bin and drag it into the folder you want” Thinking like a “windows user”, I want to be able to create a new bin in the folder — therefore bypassing the extra step of dragging.

Small thing, but just curious if there is a “[ctl] click new bin” command or something? I’ve tried a number of things…

I had a multicolored highlight in less than 10 minutes with that website’s help…thank you so much. The world just got a whole lot more interesting for me!!!

I started to think that there was something wrong with me, why couldn’t I understand it!! Sonic’s help resource sucks…

The project was digitized from MiniDV shot with a Panasonic (don’t know model).

    Edited with AVID Xpress pro.

And like I said, we have worked with exported QT ref & Sorensen compressed MPEG2 files. Both exhibit the same problem.

I followed this tutorial to the letter…it’s actually the first place I turned when we started having problems.

Number one — The QT ref that I exported is (or should be) using the lower field dominance of the original digitized clip it is referencing.

Number two — I did make sure in Sorensen that lower field was dominant in my MPEG2 encoding.

Is it possible that it isn’t a field dominance issue? Anyone else had a problem like this?

    Kudos…very well done Rat.

I appreciated all the info about workarounds to this, I always thought that when I copied a file to the source monitor, that it created some new media files (I am still fairly aloof to the way avid handles files).

I’ll take the question one step forward. Another reason I wanted to do this was because when I delete media and clean off the drives, I see a bunch of very non-specific pre-comps named the same as the project and have no way to tell what they are. How does everyone else deal with deleting pre-comps — Do a media relative to the sequences and if it’s not related to any of those delete it?

  • Thanks for the info guys,

I do create a “common elemets” folder when I think that a shot or GFX might be used multiple times across multiple projects. But this specific video was not digitized that way.

Locking the clips is also an idea, how do I do that?

But, my new question, (I am still learning a lot about AVID and the specific details) is: How specifically do I consolidate media as a copy and reassociate the project. I walked through the consolidation tool, and I only seemed to be able to create new media with new master clips…BUT it still retained the old project association.

    Anyone?

  • OK…

I already know that I can open a bin from another folder…and use clips from that bin. My original question, is “how do I change the project association of that clip?”

The consolidation technique worked, but it created new media clips linked to a new master clip…with the original project association. (By project association, what I am reffering to is in the bin view, under headings…under the “Project” field)

Basically, my end result is that we delete media based on whether we are done with a project or not. Problem is, when we are done with a project and delete the media for that project, and a shot or two was used in another project…it is then offline. I want to make a copy of media from one project, and associate it to another project.

OK…found it, nothing plugged in there…

Now my problem is, it is an XLR plug (LTC out), and the TC input on our PVW-2800 is a BNC. Can I just use an adapter? Do they make one for an Audio to Video type plug?
