  • Vector Paint — wiggle?

    Hey Guys,

I am having a hard time with this…

I want to create a word…”house” for example.

And I want that word to wiggle (like the effect used in “Dr. Katz”…I believe it is reffered to as — Squigglevision –, but I want it to be written in a specific font (not handwritten).

I have created the effect using Vector Paint…but I can only wiggle strokes that I create with my mouse. Is there a way to create a word in Illustrator…change it to paths? and then apply those paths in the Vector Paint editor?

My understanding of this is fairly limited…but I think this should be possible. Please give a very detailed explanation of how do to do this…I have Illustrator, but I don’t really know how to use it.

    Thank you for your time…

The Squigglevision was less an effect and more the fact that they didn’t draw consistently to achieve that look.

There’s text animation presets that have wiggling letters in the preset library. You could get by on one of those.

To get the full Squigglevision look, you’ll have to trace the same title repeatedly for a few seconds worth of what you need.

    Thanks for responding…

Really, I am less interested in achieving the *exact* squigglevision look, which took hours of hand-drawn animation. And more interested in just getting “close enough”…Like I said, I have achieved the exact look I am going for with handwritten letters using Vector Paint, I just want them to be more *font looking* than handwritten (using a distressed font…). So my initial question is…is there a way to apply paths or something in the Vector Paint editor?

And secondly, the text animation presets you speak of…are those included in the production bundle of 6.0? How do I access those?

This is just a hunch, but I thought one could achieve the Squigglevision look by finding a handwritten font (or just drawing the words with vector paint) and then apply the turbulance filter and keyframe several times.
I know you can make a static squiggle look in Illustrator by applying the distort effect to an object. If you were to animate (key frame) that over time I image you can get the look.
Just a hypothetic suggest not actually tested.

I tried the turbulent displace plug-in…and the effect is not exactly what I was trying to get. It needs to be more “individually shaky” (in regards to the characters). I can do this by effecting each letter…but it doesn’t create the *jagged* choppy effect I can achieve in vector paint wiggle. I think the best option may be to create the look in illustrator…export 10 different frames…then import and repeat the frames.

    Any other ideas?

Maybe a fractal noise layer (precomped) as a displacement map (available in the Pro version) with a random expression tied to the fractal noise’s evolution parameter, so the fractal noise jumps around … ?

If you would accept to use masks instead of vector paint and then apply the render stroke filter, mail me.
