You also could use Media Encoder to encode those clips to ProRes, use a manual folder structure and/or use Automator to batchrename your clips depending on different settings.

  • In which app do you want to reimport the DNxHD clips? Depending on the app, importing the Alpha from DNxHD can be a little tricky sometimes.

What OS X version are you using? Some Nvidia cards (GTX Titan) stopped working in 10.9 when used in a Cubix expander.

Adobe Media Encoder uses all your (CUDA) power and all your CPU cores aswell. If you have OS X 10.8 and above, Media Encoder will use the 64bit part of QTKit to provide you with additional speed when encoding Quicktime formats, i.e. the ProRes family of codecs.

  • As long as your assistant’s system and your system have the same audio plugins (or use the Avid integrated ones), it should work. Same goes for the default Avid video effects. Most of the effect and timeline specs were massively upgraded when Avid changed from 5.5 to 6.0, so you shouldn’t encounter any problems. The only critical thing would be v7 bins, but since your assistant uses 6.5.4, I don’t see a problem there aswell. Happy editing!

Has BlackMagic certified their drivers for MC 8 already? This may be another reason for this weird behaviour.

MC 8 is basically version 7.0.4, which on the Mac side is qualified for OS X 10.9.2. I’m running 8.0 on a new Mac Pro 2013 and had no crashes/problems until now. I’ve purchased MC 8 on a rental basis though.

Apple released the second beta of 10.9.4, build 13E16. Some people report that the problems with Adobe products and Resolve have gone away with this build, so keep your fingers crossed.
