January 29, 2008 at 6:57 pm in reply to: Premiere CS3 and dual quad-core mobo performanceThe dealer wants to know if a red render bar appears above the stills on the timeline, but still seems to preview in realtime without rendering.
YES!!! As I mentioned before, All Tests were done without rendering, in a NTSC SD session, 48K audio
And, to confirm, you ARE using PPro CS3 with no cards like a Matrox product, right?
That is correct…. No Capture cards. (I do use a DV Transverter, but it was not powered up at the time)And my final question… Is your Premiere Pro CS3 part of the suite (including AE, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.) or was it installed as the standalone product?
It was part of a Suite, but that shouldn’t be an issue.Looking for 1939 Indian Motocycle

January 29, 2008 at 1:55 pm in reply to: Premiere CS3 and dual quad-core mobo performanceI can tell you that I never had to make any “Tweaks” to the system, or any system I’ve ever had PPRO loaded on.
In fact, other than a display driver, to get optimum overlay working, I’ve never had to “Tweak” any system I’ve loaded Adobe products on — it’s always worked ‘out of the box’.

January 28, 2008 at 11:50 pm in reply to: Premiere CS3 and dual quad-core mobo performanceOK… Did the test…
A100 JPEG files are 3872 x 2592, which are much larger than what you were wanting, but should show there is plenty of headroom. Imported 3 into an NTSC SD session and twirled, zoomed and positioned the images. NO PROBLEM playing them back on timeline without rendering them!]
NO PROBLEM!
I even went so far as to call up the Preformance Monitor to show all 8 processors. Maximum CPU useage was 5-6% while playing back the timeline without rendering…
NO hesitation whatsoever.By the way: I put all my $$ into CPU and Motherboards, and cheaped out on the video display cause I ran out of money: I’m running the NVIDIA Quadro FX560 with two Refurbished Gateway 1830 Displays at 1280 x 1024. This seems to work fine, even though it isn’t the high horsepower display card the seller wanted me to buy.. But it still works fine…
I hope this is the results you wanted…..

I’ll print out your question, so I don’t miss anything… I’ll try to do it tonight…

January 28, 2008 at 8:00 pm in reply to: Premiere CS3 and dual quad-core mobo performanceA couple months ago I finally purchased a new computer.
Supermicro Motherboard & Case with SCSI & SATA Raid controllers onboard, 2 Quad Xeons @ 2.66G, 4 GB Ram (3Gb Switch), XP Pro 32 bit.
I’m very happy with it. CS3 works very nicely with it.
Prior to this I ran CS3 on a P4 2.8G W/HT, 2GB ram,
Prior to that Ran PPRO V2 on a P4 2.2G with 1GB ram. Each computer worked, but you could tell an noticable improvement with the hardware improvements!!

It acts more like a Trap!
It’s my contention, that an effect should look identical before and after a render.
In this case, the Silhouettes and fades do not show a push to white until After the render. This is a big trap waiting to spring on an un-suspecting user.
In my case, a 70 minute program was transferred with slightly low video, due to no scopes in capture (another sore point with me that I’ve commented about for a long, long time!).
If you release an effect that will make black — white after a render — at least have the effect do this when dropped on the clip, instead of improving the overall video, but neglecting to show you the areas that will be rendered un-useable after rendering!!!
