What is your shooting mode? Did you shoot your videos by XAVC? If so , then this codec may not properly convert and load into this FCP. Use this tool called iMixmxf to solve it .

If not supprot , you can just transcode with some converters.

  • I just shot my videso wiht a Sony camera plus an external mic, so there are two audios in my clip, which I used is called imixmxf, so I can keep both of my audios wihtout any one of them lose . And I trans-codec them into Prores then import them into FCPX to do some following edits. Just my opinion

  • I just has the same problem like you , I shot my videos with an external mic so I need to keep two audio channels in it. But I used this imixmxf , and it allows me to seperate those audios. choose “Multi-track video” then go to the “settings” ui , not sure if it works for you but it works for me.

Not sure if you problem has been sovled. Then you must aware that AVI is just a “Container” , figure out the codec in it then convert them into another format if necessary.

About prores codec , I would like to say it may be the most suitalbe codec if you want to import them into FCP for editing. And I suggest you to convert them into Prores 422. It would be better for the renderring or converting. You know after the conversion the converted files would be much larger than the original one.

This thread was very helpful. and I want to post my thought about how to solve this kinda problem. First everyone knows that this MXF files can be supported by FPC7 directly, or you can update your FCP to FCPX , it may also help. And lots of camera brands like Canon, Sony offered their plug-in to help customer solve this kinda problem. Or turn to third-party software amy also very helpful.

not sure if your problem has been solved or not. The mxf files can’t be naturally opened in the Vegas. And since your video is from Canon , so how about try the Canon MXF plug in? This is offered by Canon to customers who have the same problem like you. Here is a workflow to learn the detailed info. If you can’t solve your problem by using mxf plug-in, then you may turn to the third-party apps to help you.

Not sure if your problem has been solved or not, but still want to post my ideals. Did you copy the entire structure of your video folder? If this videos are “Orphan” avchd files, then it must be a little bit difficult to import them into your fcp. what camera you used? like Canon, Sony , they all have their own plug-in gear to help customers to import their videos into edit software.
