That is true, the back order we have on them is huge and it seemed like the only way to keep people from being very angry with us about the lack of delivery. Keep in mind we have a lot of the AJ-SPX800s and the SPC700s out there that also use P2 cards, and many of the first year cameras were deployed with 2 GB cards, and they have come back with POs for the 8 GB cards and then the HVX200 has also done a job in pumping up the numbers.

So it feels extreme to not accept orders, but if you got to hear the agony of the customer that is expecting the card and calls to complain you too might make a similar decision. It seemed a little more honest. Problem should clear up by the end of February/mid-March.

Hi guys,

Sorry for the continuing confusion. The Firewire port only outputs the HD signals that can be recorded by other video devices, like the AJ-HD1200. The Native modes of recording, where only the flagged frames are recorded cannot be output over firewire. So to sum up, the answer is, the firewire cannot output the 720P/24PN footage only the 720P/24P over 60 footage.

Hi Ed,

Didn’t mean to sound like I was dissing the product and saying that it was or was not less than. What I meant was, to be careful about the fact that they say that it is going to be finished by the end of January but that just might not be true. From what I saw, they had a long way to go. If they do it correctly it could be competitive with the Focus, maybe, only as I am not certain about the rest of their reliability stats and the full design implementation for their product. I do have a document from Focus, under an NDA, that says how theirs will work.

What you don’t know is how the Focus Enhancements works so that when you go to compare the two how do you know if they are competitive products. They do look similar but are they really? Give the market place a little time on these things and don’t budget it in for a shoot that you are planning in February. That is what I meant by being careful.

Heck I am being inundated with emails about availability of the HVX and they have shoots starting in two weeks, with the question, what can I do to get them a camera. All I can say is just be careful about planning something important about a product that is tied to another new product. Delivery can slide.

Proof is in the pudding. From what I saw at DV Expo, they are no more closer than Focus Enhancements, in fact Focus is closer, I could at least play back from the FE FS-100.

I would say that the birdie that told you this, has not finished reading his manual. 😉 In the 720PN modes it does not output to the 1394, but in the 720P modes, as well as all of the SD modes it most definitely does.

Hi Lars,

The guys from Moviola, Plaster City Digital Post did a film out of the footage that they shot just prior to DV Expo. While I did not see it, I heard it looked very good. I did see the footage on a 20′ screen at Plaster City, and it looked unbelieveable. Hard to image that the images came from a $6,000 camera.

But you don’t say where you are from, so it may take some time for the same test to happen near you, but if you are in LA, call them up and ask them.

Hi All,

The first cameras shipped, and if you look around the web, there are pockets of people posting footage and samples. As far as how many, well that is something that on a worldwide basis, I really don’t know.

An E09 message means that you have no signal. So either your tape needs to be rewound to where there is signal, the heads needs to be cleans as there is too much gunk in the way and the signal can’t make it though, or you simply have a bad tape.

Try putting a regular tape in, push play, and then push the shuttle, this will rub up against the heads, and in somecases I have seen this clean enough gunk away and have it solve the problem. Or use a head cleaning tape.
