I had the same argument with the engineers in Japan, and were absolutely insistant on this number. I think it was due to the H & V nature of the Offset. But they would not let me publish this without using the 1.5.

That is not what I said. The young man had a problem, all of his footage was shot, done, over in the can. To tell him that nothing he can do will salvage this is A. mean, B. Not entirely correct, and C. diverting his attention away from where he needs to be, and that is to cut the footage.

Can something viable be made with his footage, yes. That was my point. To take anything I said as the best way is not right. My words were to lead the young man away from thought of work down the drain, to move it forward to the edit suite. Concentrate on telling the story, don’t be distracted by what is, just work to get the best out of it. It can still work. Follow the dream to completion.

Ideal workflow. 24PA, with an anamorphic, but that is ideal and frankly I find the anamophic can be difficult, so I might flipflop between Squeeze and the Anamorphic for the establishing shots and squeeze for the close ups. But I have seen them all work.

Double check your camera settings that you are in DVCPRO and not DVCPRO50. If it is not that, try another post over in the FCP savvy forum. I think Gary is on vacation for the next couple of weeks so I am not sure how often he is going to dial in.

Unfortunately I have virtually 0 experience in PAL.

My bets are that you have something in FCP that is not set up properly as FCP has been rock solid in P2 SD for more than a year. Trash your preferences, start over. I have never heard of such problems in SD. The only time I have heard of block errors is when the NLE and what is on the card is not in sync and that was in HD, and was quickly corrected by matching things up.

You say you shot with 24P which would give you a 5 FRAME SEQUENCE AS YOU SAY. Had you shot in 24PA, you could have had FCP extract the 24 frames on the ingest. However in 24P, you will have to tell Cinema Tools which one is the A frame.

While I am not an expert on this but you should have captured at 29.97 as that is the speed of the recording and capture. Only once you have the material in and have opend Cinema Tools and made the extraction are your files going to be a 23.98. Once you have done this and made new files, these you can import into your sequence.

Try the FCP 5.04 upgrade. I had heard of some other customer that felt the problem was resolved with this last upgrade.
