Gary does have a point in that you do need to analyze and develop a workflow that is conducive to success. Also if you used the HD Log for the P2 viewer part of it, it does not need the lastclip.txt to make the change to Quicktime.

If you play out of the HVX, you can get HD out of its component output. If you were playing off of the Tower, it may have been a Kona Card in the Tower for the playback, I think or did you have an AJ-HD1200 on your station? I didn’t wire that station so I am not absolutely certain, the only thing I do know is the I cannot feed the timeline via 1394 to the HVX and have it play out through the component analog outputs in High Definition.

Hi,
The station that Shane was in had an AJ-HD1400 and it was through this machine that there was timeline playback. The HVX cannot take 1394 in and play out HD material. The ASICs just get too warm and thus it is not a feature of the camera.

Well it does sound like it is an FCP problem doesn’t it. If HD Log has no problems with the same clip, then FCP does, sounds like FCP. Would you do everyone a favor and document your experience and either send it to me directly and I will send it on the FCP team or you can send it to the, I do ask that you copy me so that I can nudge them a bit.
So are you coming off of a folder stashed on the HDD or off of the P2 Card when this happens? Which format are you working in? Does it happen in all formats? Just looking to find out what it is that you are doing so that someone else could possibly recreate.

The LCD is not an HD LCD, the pixel density would be too great and thus wpould make the picture too dim. You can easily focus on the LCD that comes with it with three easy methods, use the focus assist, that blows up the center to virtually a pixel for pixel match and thus, easy to focus. Use the peaking, this gives the edges a hard line when in focus and thus you can tell when it is in focus. And third, if you are really challenged, open the iris to wide open, this will give you the shallowest depth of field on a subject and then focus. Between these three strategies you should be able to find focus on the LCD on the camera. You could use an external monitor if you wanted to though.

Thanks Jan I have an understanding of why I can’t playback everything in the VCR mode that was shot in different modes. Can future updates allow you to make that change in the VCR mode vers. Camera mode?”Not sure if that is possible.

Got the camera the other day. I love the image quality of the camera. When I connect the camera to my HD projection TV using the componant cables it only plays back video shot in 1080i or p but nothing in 720. This is more then likely a problem with my TV and not the camera..”If it plays back on the camera then it is the fault of your TV.

I upgraded from my Sony PD100a and I miss the solid feel of the old camera. It was made of high quality titanium and felt rugged. The HVX 200 has more of a plasticy feel because of the plastic housing. The LCD also feels more fragel then the Sony. I do miss the titanium body, the solid feel..”The body of the HVX is made from a magnesium/aluminum alloy and frankly it feels more solid than any consumer camera I have felt.

Also when you shoot in different sizes you can only playback the ones your camera is set to. So if I shoot somthing in 720PN and the camera is set to 720P I can’t play it back unless I switch back to camera mode and switch it to the setting of the clip I want to use. Why is this?.”The camera needs to be told what is on the card it is more like a computer that a video tape deck but then there has not been a video tape deck that has even been made that is this versatile.

When I zoom into an image all the way the camera takes a long time to find the focus in auto mode. The Sony seemed to take a second where the HVX seems like it can take 4 seconds or so. Sometimes looking at the LCD I wonder if it is even in full focus.”If you put the camer back into interlace mode it should be pretty fast. When in the progrssive modes the sampling is slower because the capture rate is slower. You should learn how to focus manually as well, and use the Focus Assit and the Peaking, as both of those functions will help you.

Okay, so have you connected any other firewire device up to this same system and have had success?
If so, then let’s take a look at how you have the internal menus set up on the SD93. Also look at the set up on control in the Avid.
For the Setup on the 93, look at the 800 series menus and let me know how they are set there.
Also when was the last time this machine had a tape run all the way through and no stopping. Sometimes if a machine sits and collects dust, it isn’t very happy, try a ff and rw on a couple of tape, to give ia bit of a workout. Then try a cleaning tape.

Hi,
Okay, so let’s get a little more specific. Are you running the deck in DVCPRO or DVCPRO50? Are you working in Firewire or SDI as your video source. How are you controlling the machine? Have you fed any reference signal to the machine, which if you are controlling it with RS422 and using SDI, you should always have a reference signal.
What is the Mojo doing for you? Is that a Mojo SDI or the 1394 variety?
