One Or Two Clips Failed/Corrupt
Posted by David S. on May 21, 2006 at 3:32 pmFollowed the manual and Apple instructions.
Been to Mr. Ross’s tutorial.
1394 transfer via firewire to a Mac running 5.0.4. Copies to the desktop or internal SATA. Occasionally I get: “one or more P2 clips failed to import; probable incomplete or corrupt clips.” This occurs when trying to import to FCP.
Using HD Log instead on the same p2 card folder, no problems importing the clips and transferring them as QT to a folder to import.
Any ideas why this is occurring?

May 21, 2006 at 4:09 pmHave you tried importing those clips separately? I gett his when I do a mass import, but when I look what is missing, and go back and getthe individual clips, it works.
Man, I have to try HD Log. I got it a few weeks ago but have been slammed with work.

Haven’t Shane.
With HD Log, the import is pretty quick as well as the unwrapping of the mxf date to QT.
It’s not cheap, but it is convenient.

No, I’ve been always careful with volume names and anything that indicates a false path with the Unix kernel, ie “/”

May 21, 2006 at 5:32 pmWe’ve had a couple of clips during import fail, then we imported them again, and everything was fine.
This has occured off a P2, in the camera, From a P2store and also from a Firestore.
It happens less from the Firestore.
BTW, this is all by using the FCP import, not another program.
Cheers

Well it does sound like it is an FCP problem doesn’t it. If HD Log has no problems with the same clip, then FCP does, sounds like FCP. Would you do everyone a favor and document your experience and either send it to me directly and I will send it on the FCP team or you can send it to the, I do ask that you copy me so that I can nudge them a bit.
So are you coming off of a folder stashed on the HDD or off of the P2 Card when this happens? Which format are you working in? Does it happen in all formats? Just looking to find out what it is that you are doing so that someone else could possibly recreate.
Best,

I’ll isolate the issue and provide a report to FCP people and copy you with an email

May 27, 2006 at 1:20 ami just tried to import a single P2 clip in FCP5.0 and i still get the same error message. I’m in full on panic mode now because I just used the HVX200 for a second camera for the sole reason of getting these special shots (main camera was a varicam). I also tried to use the SONY HDCAM (MXF plugin) and this didn’t work either. Last attempt was to import MXF file. This prompts me for a “translation” file. I have no idea what this is.
one thing i did notice with the P2 folder is that some of the folders were missing the “LASTCLIP.TXT” file.
hope something works. if this error is likely to occur in the future, i am really reluctant to use the P2 format.

May 27, 2006 at 2:01 amYou said FCP5.0.
HD clips from P2 only works in 5.0.4 or later.
Make sure you are running at least 5.0.4 or it won’t work.
