I am thinking wrong tree. Keep on the FCP guy. I am willing to be he had his settings wrong. The DNX is an HD codec and is not relevant to what you are doing. Although the only thing I do not know is if the QT from Apple plays in the Avid system. This would be my next step. A phone call to Avid may net this answer. I know on the HD systems they are not compatible.

Okay, so first let me say that the only software upgrade on the 8GB card allowed the older machines to recognize it as an 8GB card. Since you are using an HVX, this is not necessary. Would love to know who you talked to in Panasonic, so that we can help squash that unhelpful hint.

On to your footage.
So your footage is oganized in Folders and organized like the following:

Folder Name
Contents
subfolders
Lastclip.txt

True? not true? if not true, how do they look?

Which version of FCP are you working in? OS? How much horsepower on your computer? Are you working through the USB or Firewire import? What else is running on the MAC that you are working with? What else is open?

I think the problem is in the capture. It is altogether possible that that the guy doing the capture was clueless. Call him and ask him how he had his cature window set up. Which version of FCP was he using? Get him to nail this down, then lets move onto the next step.

Hi,

The Canon camera records HDV and thus the recording is 4:2:0 in a long GOP stucture. The only place on the camera where you will see an uncompressed output is at the HD-SDI. This signal does not go to tape, it is an output for say monitoring or sending to an external recording device.

The only small HD camera that can record a full 4:2:2 signal with independent frames is the HVX200 from Panasonic.

Okay, let’s just work from some basics and then proceed. What format was the original footage recorded in? DVCPRO, DVCPRO50 or DVCPRO HD.
All of these can work with newer Avid systems but not all.

This leads me to question #2. Which system are you on? Be specific.

And lastly there is at least one identifiable problem with the files and that is there has to be an extention to the file name. So, it should at least be like clip1.mov. This would indicate a Quicktime file.

Well that was almost last, what was it that the guy that was prepping this for you thinking he was doing for you? What was the source of the footage and does he still have it?

While I do not know them all, Pansonic is Dry, Sony is wet. If you do not know, choose a manufacturer and just stick with it.

Mini DV is all Metal Evaporated Tape, no exceptions. The MP tape is only on the DVCPRO formats. The differences in the Mini-DV is primarily wrapped around whether it is a Dry Lubrication or a Wet Lubrication. Here is where you really don’t want to cross the line.

The vendor is duel-systems and yes it will work. Target for release is this summer sometime from what I hear.

Hi,

On a MAC the SPD850 should show up easily. Make sure that none of the P2 cards that are inserted are unlocked, the little switch on the end that write-protects the card. If it isn’t in write-protect, it will not allow the device to mount. Same trick for the AJ-PCD10.
