P2 media import problems PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by Sean Fine on June 27, 2006 at 8:08 pmI recently took an HVX200 to a trip to Africa. I used three 8 gig cards. After each card filled I transferred the material from the card to a 1T G-Raid Drive. I never changed the name of any contents on the P2. The only thing I did was make folders on the G-raid named after each card and transferred the card material into these folders. I have been back form Africa for a week and am having a terrible time importing the footage. Some of the footage will import, but some of it will not and gives me an error message. I have even had footage import fine

June 27, 2006 at 8:59 pmOkay, so first let me say that the only software upgrade on the 8GB card allowed the older machines to recognize it as an 8GB card. Since you are using an HVX, this is not necessary. Would love to know who you talked to in Panasonic, so that we can help squash that unhelpful hint.
On to your footage.
So your footage is oganized in Folders and organized like the following:Folder Name
Contents
subfolders
Lastclip.txtTrue? not true? if not true, how do they look?
Which version of FCP are you working in? OS? How much horsepower on your computer? Are you working through the USB or Firewire import? What else is running on the MAC that you are working with? What else is open?
Let us know.
Thanks,
jan

June 27, 2006 at 9:21 pmHi Jan,
Thanks for the quick reply. I am running a G5 dual GHz machine, 6 gigs of ram, FCP 5.0.4. I also have a Kona LH card. My hard drive array is one 500G SATA. The rest of my drives are G-Raid 1 TB Fire wire 800 drives. Most of my footage is shot on a Varicam. I import the varicam footage SDI through the Kona LH. I have also run all my updates for the MAC. I have no other programs running when I have been trying to import from P2.
My G-Raid that I transferred my P2 footage too is organized as you said.
Folder Name
Contents
-sub folders from P2
Lastclip.txtThe footage is being imported from the G-Raid over Fire wire 800.
FYI- the person who told me to update the firmware of the 8 gig cards was reached by calling 1-800-524-1448 x2. I was told he was very familiar with the HVX-200.
I would appreciate any help you could give me with this. As you can imagine I am very worried. Is there someone I can contact directly for help?
All the best,
Sean -

June 27, 2006 at 10:09 pmLook in your CONTENTS folder. Compare the contents of the VIDEO and CLIPS folders. Do they have all the same footage and names? If you have a clip, but no video, that means that the shot that CLIP represents was deleted…most likely in camera (My DPs did this a lot, much to my chagrin. I had a lot of verifying to do).

June 27, 2006 at 10:57 pmDon’t import those clips in the P2 IMPORT window…as they don’t exist. They were deleted in camera.
