p2 AJ-SPD850 won’t mount to my Mac G5….Please help!

I suspect an update to FCP 5.1 would do the trick if the trick is doable.

We have a P2 Storage Hard Disk Unit AJ-PCS060. When we first got it, I couldn’t get it to mount, b/c it was setup for a PC. There’s some stupid little trick I had to do to switch it for a mac – press two buttons at the same time for 10 seconds type thing. Not sure that’s your problem, but it might be worth a look.

Do you remember what you had to push or where to find the information about that? I can get the P2 store to mount only when it has a disk in it. Not much good as a storage unit when in the field. Thanks

TO GET YOUR MAC TO SEE THE P2 STORE (TAKEN FROM A DV INFO POST):

To change compatibility mode between Mac and Windows: 1. Connect USB cable between P2 store and Mac or PC, and then turn on P2 store. 2. Make sure USB LED (D) lights. 3. Press CANCEL button (A), Battery level indicator button (B) and HDD capacity indicator button (C) simultaneously for more than five seconds. 4. The color of USB LED (D) is orange for Mac, green for Windows. NOTE : If you follow the instructions in order, the P2 store will not change modes correctly. The correct sequence is to first press and hold the HDD Capacity ( C ) and Cancel buttons (A), THEN add the Battery Check Button (B), now hold all three buttons for 5 seconds, the mode will change reliably from PC to Mac or back to PC. Doing the procedure in alphabetical order will produce hit-and-miss results. As mentioned in the note, it is necessary to connect a USB 2.0 cable to the computer or the USB mode LED will not light and you will not know which mode you have selected.

On a MAC the SPD850 should show up easily. Make sure that none of the P2 cards that are inserted are unlocked, the little switch on the end that write-protects the card. If it isn’t in write-protect, it will not allow the device to mount. Same trick for the AJ-PCD10.

the P2 store won’t show up if there is no footage on it – try dumping some footage then pluging it in.

That was the trick. I didn’t realize you needed footage on it. I thought it would mount like any other drive. Oh well, now I know and it works great. The only trouble i’m having is mounting the deck. I placed the cards in their slots with footage on them but it still won’t mount. USB or IEEE, doesn’t matter. Any thoughts?

THANK YOU!!!!! I was about to go and shoot myself. I’ve talked to everyone and nobody said anything about holding down buttons! I didn’t see it in the manual either.. You would figure it would be in BOLD LETTERS for the world to see. How about a big fat sticker on the P2 Store itself.

Now if I could only record 1 hour of footage on a single p2 card at 1080i. Then we would live in a perfect world.
