Hi,

The Sony Deck is not a DVCPRO Deck, it is a HDV/DVCAM deck that will also play DV. It does not play any DVCPRO format, which is based on a metal particle tape.

That said, if you have any HDV footage then I would buy another one of these as it covers your DV world and the fact that aall of these formats are on the Metal Evaporated tape, no harm is done by playing one and then another.

Boy do I feel silly. When I read the initial post I was thinking of the 500 and the 3000, and not really reading the question. Yes you are right Steve there is no CAC function in these two cameras.

Hi,

If the lens you are using is a CAC lens then that will be in the automatic registry with the camera. So your question really doesn’t make sense in that you would not even necessarily have to choose it or put any numbers in.

Hi Tim,

You are new to the camera. The phenomena you are describing sounds not like duplicate frames but more like the OIS on while on a stable platform. Check this in a quiet scientific mode and recreate the problem in a non-stress-filled environment.

Go from there and call the service center.

Hi,

When I read the first description of the problem it sounded like you had the Image Stabilization on while having it on a tripod. It can make some very odd looking effects. If this is not it, I suggest that you contact Panasonic Service immediately, do not wait for your sales rep to call you back, call the service center. Follow the link above in one of the previous responses.

And no this is not a common occorance. I have never heard of the camera doing what you say it is doing. Frankly I think it would be somewhat impossible to do that.

Hi,

Within the HVX200, if it were set to 24PN, nothing would come out of the Firewire port. If you are trying to record this onto the Firestore drive you have to have the data coming out of the port and into the Firestore. What will come out is all 60 frames and you have the firestore set properly so it will strip out all of the duplicate fames. the firestore is set to 24PN.

Obviously you have not tested the 720P/24P thoroughly as you most definitely can shoot off-speed footage with the HVX200 in that mode, it embeds into a 60 frame stream, just as if it were a Varicam. You would then have to use a frame rate converter to get the frames out of there.

Now the last and most critical is that in your USER BITS setting you need to be sure that it is in FRAME RATE. If not the Firestore will no know which frames to throw away.

Actually the AG-2500 plays DVCAM just fine, as do all of our DVCPRO machines, and have for since 1997 shortly after DVCAM was released.

I have a feeling that perhaps the footage on the tape that doesn’t play maybe an HDV tape? Or there is something just seriously wrong with the tape and the respective recording. Can you go back to the camera that recorded it and have it play there?

Hi,

The tape on the inside of the cassettes is indeed the same. No difference at all.

As far as getting your tape fixed, I have heard good things about the guys at Abel Cine Tech in NYC doing a cracker-jack job on this.
