Jan? I have a major HVX problem I can’t seem to get help with

If your camera is defective, CONTACT the MANUFACTURER.

No amount of goodwill or helpful advice will fix it.

Your camera comes with a 1 year warranty and there is a certificate and such with your manual and camera paperwork.

Gear is sometimes defective… just contact them and make a warrantee claim. There are authorized repair centers in many major areas of the country or you can ship it.

Hi Richard,

I have contacted my sales rep, who has contacted an engineer at Panasonic who is supposed to be checking out some samples of the footage. But it is taking a long time, and I have shoots to do… From my perspective since I have proof the camera was defective when I got it because I have footage that I shot the second day out that clearly shows the problem (I’m sure the day one footage shows it too, but it doesn’t have a pull so it is much harder to see.

Anway, I was just hoping Jan would let me know if this is a known issue, and therefore cut to the chase and get me a new camera or get it fixed asap.

Not known issue… e’ve never seen tat in 2 years shooting…

Hi,

When I read the first description of the problem it sounded like you had the Image Stabilization on while having it on a tripod. It can make some very odd looking effects. If this is not it, I suggest that you contact Panasonic Service immediately, do not wait for your sales rep to call you back, call the service center. Follow the link above in one of the previous responses.

And no this is not a common occorance. I have never heard of the camera doing what you say it is doing. Frankly I think it would be somewhat impossible to do that.

Thanks for the quick response Jan, I truly appreciate it.

I had thought the same thing about image stabilization, but it does it whether stabilization is on or off, I can see why it would look jerky if it was trying to stabilize an image that was supposed to have a lot of movement in it.

Anyway, it really looks like duplicated frames or something to me, it has a hesitating look to it, which makes horizontal lines (in particular) look very jerky during pulls, but it generally screws up most any shot in a kind of subtle way. It just makes the video look jerky like poor animation or a computer trying to slog through footage that is too high bandwidth for it. (I had originally thought that I needed to set up a RAID in my computer, and once I did and saw that it did nothing to help I started to do more investigating.

Dood- call the service center already and get the warranty service you as an owner are entitled. Jan and this forum are amazing but they cannot fix your camera remotely…

Ok,

Number one, I am not trying to flame here. I chose the HVX200 over all of the competition because I really like Panasonic, was impressed with the footage and also my experience using DVX’s.

Number two, I was trying to find out if this is known problem, and thought some other HVX owners may have had the problem and might know a simple fix…

Hi Tim,

You are new to the camera. The phenomena you are describing sounds not like duplicate frames but more like the OIS on while on a stable platform. Check this in a quiet scientific mode and recreate the problem in a non-stress-filled environment.

Go from there and call the service center.

Hi Jan,

I did test it with numerous times with no stabilization on. If it is because of stabilization then it is somehow staying on when it is turned off and the hand symbol is not on the screen. But I can see why you might think it was caused by that.

It really seems like it must be pull-down or something like that to me.

I’ll call the service center if I don’t get some feedback from my sales rep in the next day or so.

I just wanted to see if there was a known issue with some cameras. Let’s face it, anything with a computer in it can go bonkers, so I thought I’d check if you or anyone else knew anything about the problem.

Might be something to do with the way your edit system is configured. It could be adding frames or doing some sort of odd pulldown that you’re seeing.

Try taking a look at the footage played back directly from the camera and compare that with what you’re seeing in the computer.

If it’s OK from the camera then there’s something else outside the camera that’s causing your problem.
