Hi Warren I did a clean install on A 10.7 that hand been installed on a freshly formatted Harddrive were I installed 10.5 then upgraded to 10.6 and then to 10.7 because Apple were saying that Final Cut studio would work on 10.7. I then installed Final Cut Studio and discovered that it did not work on my Mac Pro
I had a 10.6 disc that worked for quite a long time but it does not any more. I can read in this forum that 10.6.7 is the latest recommended version of 10.6 when running Final Cut Pro. That would explain the problems I have with 10.6 going bad. Problem is I have a 10.6.0 disc and the only upgrade of 10.6 is the 10.6.8 combo installer as far as I can see on Apples download site.
My solution thus far is to reinstall Final Cut Studio on my 10.5.8 Disk and that seem to work. I am crossing my fingers.

To clarify. My Main system is runing Final Cut studio 3 on 10.6.8 do to the latest security upgrades backed into that system. At it runs perfectly. I have do a few personal none deadline projects in Final Cut Pro on Leopard because it was possible and the multicam project was only to stress test the system. I was just asking to see if any one had had the time to Install Final Cut studio 3 on lion the slower but more secure way and if the had been able to do multicam editing in Final Cut Pro 7 when running Lion as their operating system. Me being layzy about installing Final Cut 7 the proper way is more about me wanting to try out Lion and less about me wanting to edit in Lion. I have only done so on small family projects and I would not do it on bigger projects in the first place. Sorry for the confusion and lack of clarification in the first post.

Hi David yes I know and I will do it the proper way when I know that all my applications are doing Lion Properly. Until then Final Cut 7 on Lion is just a playground. I have a perfectly working Final Cut 7 on my 10.6 harddrive, and I am working that one now. I just remember how time consuming it was to do it the prober way when installing Final Cut studio 3 on a freshly formated and installed 10.6 system. I am only waiting for BBedit 10 to become available in the App store. I will then format one of the discs and do a proper installation as soon as I find the time for it.

I have learned something valuable about smooth came today. Watching the filter setting of the part analyzed by smooth came I discovered that it had zoomed in on the video by some 330% which is a lot. I thus decided to analyze the original copy again with ad 125% zoom instead. this gave a much better result and showed me why it had done the 330% zoom in the first place. Reason as some you properly could have guessed was when my daughter moved in and out of the frame. I now know that I will have to cut out sudden movements across the frame. export the part i want to analyze. reimport it into final cut and the apply smooth came. thank you all for some very valuable advice.

Hi Shane yes I have learned from painful previous experience with smooth cam that it analyzes the entire clip. The 2x 18 sec is the entire clip. I just wanted to do a testing. Hi David I think I will look into my smooth came filter to see if I have messed it up somehow. If I have I do not remember then but thanks for making me aware of the possible culprit to its bad performance.

Sorenson Squeeze 6.5 does considerably better low bitrate compression compared to Apples Compressor, but Apple Compressor does better HD compressions. I do not know why but When trying to compress in 1080p for youtube I find that compressor 6.5 has a tendency of pixilating the nose on a face. I can se blocks on the nose of the subject. I am thus using Compressor for HD fotage and Sorenson Squeeze for SD fotage.

July 3, 2011 at 2:08 pm in reply to: Has any one of you compared the speed and quality of Compressor 4 to that of Compressor 3.5?Hi André Engelhardt thanks alot for the link. I am a avid user of the MacPro video tutorials, but I missed that information. I am not going to buy the Compressor 4.0 then And if I decided to buy Final Cut X I am sure that it is possible to export the finished video as a selfcontained quicktime file which I can compress in Compressor 3.5.

June 29, 2011 at 5:06 pm in reply to: Can you recommed a great no track dolly for filming eventsHi Bret thanks a lot for a very informative answer. I will be using the Manfrotto dolly for moving my equipment and for dolly shorts if I am lucky enough to have smooth surface on location. I will of cause test that when I check out the locations before the event it self

Joel I needed someone to verify that you can get reasonably stable shorts when using a wheel based dolly like the Manfrotto you linked to. Bret both solutions looks great when you need a totally smooth movement. Especially the Glidetrack as it is available in europe which saves me from having to paying import taxes The danish VAT of 25% is high enough as it is

That is typically Apple. They are only testing the hardware options on current hardware, but Barefeats has tested the 5770 and the 5870 on all versions of the MacPro down to the original 2006 version which is the one I have. Knowing now that it works with Final Cut Pro X I will proberly buy that card before Apple discontinues it with the release of the next version of the MacPro. The 5770 is already maxing out the PCI-Express 1 16lane socket on my Mac Pro,
On a different note. Why are people describing it as an upgrade. It is a new product priced as the older upgrades, but you do not loose your current Final Cut 7 and can continue using this for your projects until you feel comfortable using Final Cut X. That is a win win situation in my book.
