My Final Cut 7 started to act very wired when doing log and capturing from tape. It started the tape alright, but the pictured didn’t update on the monitor and I got the beach ball when I tried to do capturing. I tried thrashing the preference file but it did not help.

Yesterday I formatted one of the hard drives in my Mac Pro. Installed 10.5. Updated that. Installed 10.6 on top. Updated that. Installed 10.7 on top of that. Updated that. Installed Final Cut Studio 3 from the dvd’s updated that and tried to start Final Cut 7. First try was successful but when I tried to start it afterwards it crashes in the start up. I then check disc permissions on all discs. No problem found. I ran Apple hardware test. No problem found. At last I did a verify disc. It found problems on my 10.6 discs which was my main final cut disc and I repaired that. This has hopefully solved the problems I have with log and capture via Final Cut on that disc. I will check in a moment and give you the update.

My 1st question is has any of you experienced similar problems with Final Cut 7 when you have installed anything from the start with out doing any shortcuts.

My 2th question is can I start up on my 10.6 harddrive and use disc utilities to repair a 10.7 hard drive if
it has the same problem as my 10.6 hard drive. The last question is only of interest if log and capture works after I have repaired the 10.6 hard drive.

Sorry for the long story but I wanted to document what I had done to fix the problem my self.

Let the machine work for you. Not you for the machine
