June 23, 2011 at 7:25 pm in reply to: PRO APPS updates gone….

[Jaap Verdenius] “Does this mean that if you need to reinstall FCP, you can’t update to 7.0.3 anymore unless you were so clever to save the Pro Apps 2010-02 file some time ago?”

I think everyone here would be much appreciated to have this at the very least qualified with an informative response…

I’ll give Apple a call myself.

  • [Banks Meador] “Why invest so much in a market where there’s really relatively little return?”

    Ask google about youtube….

It’s branding. And when they were dominating the broadcast world, is the market really that small? Is the return really that small?

Companies would murder for that kind of return…which speaks of the arrogance of Apple. If the return isn’t 60-80%, it’s a failure in Apple’s eyes…holy F$#@# have times changed…

I hope I’m wrong. I hope heads will roll and this was not what they wanted to really put out there…

  • [Brian Charles] “Like many of you my reaction is WTF!”

Like one of the recent posters here was told by a CSR from Apple, go elsewhere for your professional needs…

There is absolutely no other explanation for this roll out. And quite honestly, with everything that’s happened over the last 2 days…can you ever trust this company again?

Who knows..but I wouldn’t repeat it here. They might send you cease and assist letters for using a term they might use…

June 23, 2011 at 5:22 pm in reply to: FCP X is already pirated!

[Gary Huff] “Terrible attitude to have. Apple is more than allowed to release whatever they want, and you are more than allowed to read the reactions from people who try it out and then purchase it or not.”

True. But cynical or not, they didn’t release a trial because of their piss poor attitude towards their users…there is no “try out” here…I went to 2 apple stores, neither had it…

June 23, 2011 at 5:00 pm in reply to: Is Apple the new “Evil Empire?”

Jobs has definitely taken on the role of a Bond villain…and relished in it

  • Oh come on…

Apple had a 54% market share in *broadcast*…they were dominating…and imovie and idvd could handle the requirements of those not requiring broadcast standards…effin sake I’ve used it for those things too…but that’s not denigrating your business model, it’s denigrating Apple for spitting in the eye of that 54%…there is nothing wrong with imovie pro…just don’t try and sell it under the final cut pro name….i’m glad you have a robust tool at an affordable price, although even that’s arguable to me now…this should have cost $100, no more… 😀

  • [Jonathan Dortch] “But yes FCPX is still an editing program. You can hit a runtime, edit in Prores at 1920, do a mix and apply your broadcast safe filters. Encode your program stream in Compressor and you’ll be out the door.”

And how do you reference with confidence? You can’t grade it, so what do you do?

How do you deliver audio? Can you deliver separate dialogue and M&E track?

these are legit questions by the way…

  • [Brad Jordan] ” Just because I’m part time & have my studio in my house doesn’t mean I’m any less “Pro”. Was disheartening to see my opinions and comments discounted because of this.”

Sorry I have to chime in on this…Who would discount this? And why?

Question. As a small studio, can you say you can use this program to deliver broadcast quality material?

June 23, 2011 at 4:00 pm in reply to: Boycott

We just need to bounce to another platform. I’ve been patient enough the last 4 years for a solid improvement, this wasn’t it. Oh well…we are very fortunate to have alternatives for those of us on macs…

We should boycott responding to the Apple apologists here though. They have really no proof to any of their spin. “XML is coming”…ya, ok, there are no tracks! They don’t exist!

I say boycott waiting, move everything off Final Cut, and export all your films to flash
