There’s a roadshow across Europe at the moment, but I’m sure once it’s released local specialist resellers will be able to organise demos for you

Revival stand alone is still Linux-only system but now has two levels of software – standard and pro
Having not yet seen the OSX software I cant tell you whether or not the revival page is available there… I’d ask someone at BMD but they’re all on the road now heading to Berlin for the roadshow.

Most, if not all, of this information should be available at your local roadshow event.
One of the reasons it’s been a bit quiet is that everyone was expecting a refresh of the MacPro this month, but it’s looking more likely to be later – around September possibly.
You can easily spec a system for pricing though, the main components that are required at this stage are – GTX285 or FX4800 GFX cards, BMD Extreme 3D IO cards (As per previous posts, other IO will be supported soon if it doesn’t actually already work) along with a high spec mac pro (2.93Ghz / 12GB RAM+) and storage that will keep up with your desired resolution/frame rate.
If you have more questions feel free to post em up or get registered to an event near you (Or if there isn’t one – contact your local BMD reseller)

Unfortunately, due to limitations on the current Mac hardware & OS there’s no multiple GPU config possible.
No idea if this’ll ever change as traditionally Apple have never mentioned it might change. They’d need to add more PCIe 16x slots as currently, if you had 2 x double size GPU cards you couldnt add Fibre/SAS for storage or IO cards….

May 6, 2010 at 3:25 pm in reply to: Does DaVinci Resolve on Mac support Cineform stereoscopic workflow and codec? As far as I’m aware Resolve on the Mac is the same software, so will support the same codecs – which doesnt include cineform. The party line is there isn’t any 3D support on the Mac platform as you require a GPU per eye and this is impossible with the MacPro architecture.

The qualified GPU for Linux Resolve is the S4

The hardware systems are a completely different beast from the Mac based systems, yes the software is about the same, but your performance will be rather different when you look at the two sets of qualified specs 🙂

The linux systems require the NVidia S4 rackmount GPUs
OSX systems, as I said previously in this thread, have proven to work better on the GTX285 than the 4800. Its currently second hand info from NAB, we’ll be testing this asap

From what I hear the GTX285 is getting better performance…can let you know more when I’ve tested the system myself
