August 5, 2018 at 9:54 pm in reply to: Which Mac should I buy for editing in 4k on PremiereHi,
Was going to post this as a new thread but seems relevant to this thread so posting as a reply here –

Just purchased a new Macbook Pro (specs below) to edit 4k footage on, as my old 2014 Macbook Pro is not able to keep up.Macbook Pro 15″ 2018
10.13.6
2.9 GHz Intel Core i9
32 GB Ram
Radeon Pro 560x 4096MB
Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB
Sadly the 2018 Macbook is not handling the 4k footage much better than my old Macbook. I am working with Sony FS7 .mxf files and A7S .mp4 files. Files are on an external SSD. I have tried optimizing Premiere according to recommendations from online articles/videos. I have updated to the latest version of Premiere, 12.1.2 and have adjusted the resolution in the program monitor to 1/4 and 1/8. Still playback of video/audio is choppy, laggy, stutters, drops out. Reviews online seem to indicate that the new Macbooks should handle 4k footage relatively well. My SSD is a USB 3.0 that I have connected to the Macbook using Apple’s USB-C to USB A connector and System Report shows a 3.0 connection with 5GB/sec speed.
My work often requires immediate turnaround so there usually isn’t time to create proxies. I could adjust workflow to make sure all cameras are recording in ProRes codecs if that solves the issue but just wanted to see what others’ experience has been.
Thanks,
James

March 6, 2015 at 6:03 pm in reply to: Layer Disappears during Render, but not during Ram PreviewHi,
I had the same exact problem, Googled it and found this thread. In my comp the affected layer was a graphic I had on top of an iphone graphic layer. They layers were in the same z-space. I disabled motion blur for both layers and my comp rendered fine. Not sure how to fix if you need motion blur. Will share if I find out.

February 17, 2013 at 7:09 am in reply to: Copy and paste In to Out in Premiere CS6 timelineGreat tip, thanks.
Starting to make the switch from FCP to Premiere Pro. A big part of my FCP workflow involves making in and outs in the timeline, selecting that area (opt-a), and copying and pasting it. Hard to believe there isn’t a more direct way to do this in Premiere.
Where’s the feature request located on their site? I’ll definitely put a req in.

I’ve had the same issues at low ISO’s and in all lighting conditions.
I tried turning sharpening all the way down and turning highlight priority off. I’ve heard that I should pump the scene full of light but like the OP, this has happened even in daylight.
Any new info?
Thanks!

April 29, 2010 at 5:29 pm in reply to: DVCPro HD Tape shot on Varicam, Playback problems!I recently experienced this same issue. Getting the error message, E-00, trying to playback DVCPro tapes on AJ-HD1400 deck. The tapes were shot 720 30p on a Varicam. They playback fine in camera.
Right now I have tapes shot 720 30p on HDX-900 that playback fine on the deck, but the tapes shot on the Varicam do not. Do you think this problem can be solved by sending the deck to have the heads cleaned?
Thanks,

I’ve captured SD footage from the SDX-900 with the 1400 deck by firewire.
Here’s a helpful chart I think I found somewhere on this forum:

Thanks for the response, Mark. Yes, I have already trashed prefs, and checked firewire cable.
Here’s more info on the situation. I was able to control the deck in the capture window, but preview was disabled.
I did some searching on the web and found this setting chart for the 1400 deck: https://eww.pavc.panasonic.co.jp/pro-av/sales_o/ieee1394/AJ-HD1400P_FCP512.html
Changed a few settings on the deck itself, used easy setup Panasonic DV/DVCPro and DV NTSC and capturing fine now. If anyone else has this problem and has questions feel free to contact me.

I have tried using a firewire connection and am now trying capture via Kona card. Would prefer to go firewire for convenience.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

October 22, 2008 at 3:20 pm in reply to: anamorphic clips not being imported as anamorphichad the same issue. did a little poking around. you need to go to audio/video settings, capture tab, select the preset you normally use for the media you import, duplicate it, edit it, and check off anamorphic.
Hope that helps.
