I have tried using a firewire connection and am now trying capture via Kona card. Would prefer to go firewire for convenience.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    This is trouble shooting 101.

Are you sure the firewire port on the deck is working? How about your cable? There are plenty of
things that can make this NOT work. Isolate them and check them off the list. Other than making
a “house call” there’s not much we can do for you here. Did you trash prefs and restart?

Thanks for the response, Mark. Yes, I have already trashed prefs, and checked firewire cable.

Here’s more info on the situation. I was able to control the deck in the capture window, but preview was disabled.

I did some searching on the web and found this setting chart for the 1400 deck: https://eww.pavc.panasonic.co.jp/pro-av/sales_o/ieee1394/AJ-HD1400P_FCP512.html

Changed a few settings on the deck itself, used easy setup Panasonic DV/DVCPro and DV NTSC and capturing fine now. If anyone else has this problem and has questions feel free to contact me.

LEts just see if oyu understand that to change the control status of the deck you have to change the FW output from HD to SD over the FW ports.

you are using an SD tape in a Deck that is by default HD.

If your’e using a Kona card, you can simply hook up the ‘SD-SDI’ port of the 1400 to the Kona.

With firewire, you will need to dig in to the menus and choose dv50 (or I think what the deck calls it is 422 for 4:2:2 video). YOu have to change this is a couple of different palces if I rememeber correctly.

In all honesty, the Kona card and RS422 is much much easier and faster, and will yield better quality.
