Are the black bars there when you play the FLV itself with a standalone FLV player, or is it only when it plays in the web player?

We use the AJA Xena HS and LS brand cards with little-to-no issues.

  • Can you set your capture device to do the downconversion automatically? My Canon XH-A1 HDV camcorder can downconvert HDV to DV as it comes out of the camera. I then just acquire as I normally would into a DV job.

  • I don’t think the Mac can WRITE to an NTFS-formatted drive without third-party tools installed.

    There’s always a catch.

You may want to attempt this job in AE. AE’s motion control is much better than PPro’s (unless this was remedied in CS4).

Plus, you can easily make a 16×9 and a 4×3 end product. First make the 16×9 version, then place that 16×9 composition (i.e., timeline) into a 4×3 composition.

As to your image quality issues in PPro, it may be because you aren’t seeing a rendered “preview” in PPro. If you place a still on the timeline, it probably needs rendered to see it’s final quality. Otherwise, you’re looking at a rough preview view.

  • Exactly. Quicktime’s NONE compression should do the trick. It’ll make huge files, however…

  • We move video to/from Final Cut to PPro all the time. I don’t think it’s a limitation of PPro or Final Cut that would lead to issues, but rather, codec compatibility.

Just be sure you’re exporting out of Final Cut to a Quicktime file in a codec the PC side can read and recognize.

Also, since the Mac has the unfortunate habit of NOT appending extensions to files (i.e., the “.mov” part), be sure you add the extension manually if needed. The PC won’t even see the Quicktimes unless they have a “.mov” at the end of the filename.

That’s good news, and puts me one step closer to upgrading (but that’s not enough for me to shell out the $$ just yet…)

But the CS3 titler panels “creep” on my OSX install, too (even worse, I think). So there must be something more to this problem than some random Microsoft mouse driver.

Anyone know if the TITLER was fixed in 4.0 or 4.1? 2.0’s titler was very stable, then in comes 3.0… The “creeping” panels really drive me nuts, so does it’s overall sluggishness.
