  • Converting from HDV to DV for editing… best settings?

Posted by Matt Sonberg on June 3, 2009 at 7:02 pm

I have bunch of footage from a show that was shot in HDV. I need to convert it to DV so that I can edit it and produce a DVD. What are the best settings to use if I’m working in PPro CS4? Obviously I’m looking to maintain as much quality as possible.

Can you set your capture device to do the downconversion automatically? My Canon XH-A1 HDV camcorder can downconvert HDV to DV as it comes out of the camera. I then just acquire as I normally would into a DV job.

My camera is a Canon Vixia HF11, I just did some reading on it and don’t believe it has the downconverting capability you mentioned. I’m thinking I will have to do this through Premiere.
