Yeah it actually sounds like something that was fixed in 10.0.4 that MB was working around- now they just need to update and it will be all set. The MB plugins still renders fine- just the preview is mirrored. Other than that no biggie. More details here.

Yes FCP 7 and X can live on the system partition. FCP X doesn’t directly open FCP 7 projects- you need this app to translate Projects:

    https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/7tox-for-final-cut-pro/id496926258?mt=12

  • You can edit the clip name by selecting it and then clicking on the Info tab in the Inspector. From there you can edit the name.

March 30, 2012 at 11:05 pm in reply to: Attempting to use roles to export part of storyline

Roles would not enable you to export a portion of a timeline. There are only two ways to do this- either nest the entire timeline into a Compound Clip and trim that. Or Send to Compressor and set in/out points there.

  • What about doing this as a multicam clip and working with the two audio tracks in the angle editor? Otherwise you have to break apart the audio and then you’d lose the linked connection between audio and video.

March 2, 2012 at 3:23 am in reply to: Convert project from Premiere Pro to FCPX?

I supposed you could export an XML, open it in FCP7, export an XML again and then use the 7toX app to convert it to X’s format. Or you might try the 7toX app directly on the Premiere export. But I’d doubt that would work. I’d suggest just recreating the project from the ground up- as the interface is significantly different. Square peg vs. round hole…

March 2, 2012 at 12:47 am in reply to: Selective Color variation

Search the FCPX Help system for- Target a specific color using a color mask.

A color mask isolates a particular color in the image. You can apply a color mask to a clip to correct a specific color, or to exclude that color from corrections to the rest of the image, or both. For example, you could mute a brightly colored shirt in the background that distracts attention from a clip’s main subject.

Using a color mask to control the color correction allows you to pick a color and then independently adjust that color (reduce, enhance, or change it) or adjust everything except that color (for example, add a tint or reduce the brightness or chroma levels).

I’ve had no problems with that combo either. Works fine for me.

My fans kick on at random times in all apps- I wouldn’t quit an app just for this. It happens- virtual memory management, processors get hot, etc.

Why bother with proxy at all? Just go with original media and start cutting. At any rate- there’s no reason to re-ingest. Switching from Proxy back to original or optimized just switches the proxies off- you wouldn’t need to reingest original media again. this happens regardless of whether you edit with proxies or not.
