    I have rendering turned off.

I have clip analysis turned off.

I’m editing happily away and my laptop fan starts humming. Activity monitor says FCPX is going hard on both cores, and I don’t know what.

There are no background processes running that I can see.

I did a process sample, and I’m adding a small portion of it here, maybe someone understands this.

My only workaround is to quit the app, then reopen. That seems to settle it down.

    Any clues?

My fans kick on at random times in all apps- I wouldn’t quit an app just for this. It happens- virtual memory management, processors get hot, etc.

Hmmm…. it’s not just the fan. FCPX has my cores running full tilt. Quitting the program and reopening makes this stop.

Still not sure what it’s doing.

I never though not rendering would take so much power.

    Mark,

What’s going in with RAM usage when you check in Activity Monitor? I’ve only got 8GB in my i7 MPB so I frequently run the “free” FreeMemory app when in FCPX and rarely have to re-boot. It seems the majority of times that my fan begins racing is when rendering or encoding. I don’t seem to get it much when just working.

    Dave
