Looks like this might be fixed in the macOS High Sierra 10.13.5 update.

Might have found a bug in the new color tools. Add the new Custom LUT effect, load a LUT. Add the new Color Wheels and make some adjustments. Make sure they’re both turned on in the effect panel, then copy and paste them to a new clip and the Color Wheels effect is turned off on the new clip. Can anybody else replicate?

Otherwise, these new tools are great so far.

EDIT: Looks like copy/pasting just the color wheels alone defaults to the effect being turned off. Weird.

Hmm, I’m not seeing that. Does it still happen after trashing preferences?

Some people are saying that the Flow transition now looks like a dissolve, and others are saying that it behaves correctly. If that’s what you mean, what is the GPU on your computer?

What kind of weirdness? Perhaps those fixes just aren’t listed in the release notes.

Out of curiosity, are those still frames of an image sequence?

January 21, 2017 at 12:29 am in reply to: Updating Final Cut Pro X Project Files and Events

If you’re referring to projects and events from FCPX 10.0.x, you’ll need to first update them to v10.2.3, and then to v10.3.2. If you don’t have a copy of v10.2.3, you can download the trial version from this support document:

Update to Final Cut Pro X 10.1 – 10.2.3 libraries

Since it’s a 30-day trial, be sure to update all of your older projects and events before the trial expires.

Make sure in System Preferences, your Color Display profile is set to default. Then in FCPX, try changing the Color Space Override in the Settings view of the Inspector.

Create a wide color library by opening up library prefs and scrolling down to the bottom to color processing.

It looks like rec.2020 works on all installs of final cut across all systems. But you’ll only be able to see the wider colors if you have a monitor that can display those colors.

  • If your system doesn’t have much VRAM (256MB minimum, 1GB or more recommended), try to keep images 4K or smaller. Also, make sure your version of FCPX is up to date.
