February 22, 2017 at 7:22 pm in reply to: firmware update on SONY EX3

    Hi all,

Does anyone know if using a USB cable that is not the original supplied USB cable makes a difference? It’s been a long time since I updated firmware, and the original cable is MIA. I have a call into Sony right now but they are busy and I am waiting for a call back. In the meantime, I thought I’d ask you fine folks.

    Thanks in advance!

May 1, 2014 at 3:26 pm in reply to: Offline titles, effects and generators

I am having the same issue. Help! I have a deadline and unless I go through and recreate each and every title, generator and effect (which is time consuming at best) I am at a loss. If I knew which title/effect/generator was the culprit it would be so much easier.

The project exports (shares) but none of the changes I made in the titles show up in the “share”/exported file.
Unfortunately I am not the only editor on this project so I am not familiar with all the elements used. I am taking over for someone who is sick. My deadline was today.

So far I’ve tried rebooting the computer (alway my first troubleshooting action), creating a new project and copying/pasting the clips into a new timeline. Now I’m just scouring the internets for answers.

April 27, 2014 at 11:09 pm in reply to: PMW 320 Lens Issues

    Hello Glenn,

My work purchased the Sony PMW 320 with stock lenses to replace our aging EX3’s,(also with stock lenses). I am a news photographer. My fellow photogs and I are experiencing sticky jerky zoom at slow speeds. It’s ugly, it’s annoying, it’s unprofessional, and I’m trying to find a solution. Not only does the rocker/servo stick at slow speed, but it goes slightly out of focus at the beginning of the move.
I never had a problem with the EX 3’s or any other camera I’ve used.
I don’t know if you ended up purchasing the 320, but let me know if you did and if you are experiencing similar issues.
If anyone else is experiencing this and has a fix – please contact me!

    Thank you!

    Jacquie

Pro should install when you install Final Cut Studio. Quicktime 7.6.x does not install when you initially install Snow Leopard. It’s optional. If you then install FCS, QT 7.6.x Pro should install.

    * Snow Leopard was already installed when I purchased my computer. Is there a way to do this after the install or will I have to do a re-install of the OS?

You should not be using Cleaner at all ever for anything these days. It was never even updated for Intel Macs. I don’t understand your reasoning. Just use Compressor.

    * I should have stated, when compressing to wmv only. (I have one client who needs wmv) I use Compressor, FCP and Quicktime for all else.

Thank you again for your time and expertise.

I ended up running Disk Warrior and that did the trick.

Thank you Craig for your fast response!

I do not have QT Pro 7.6.6 installed. Have QT 10 on a brand spanking new system where I freelance. They are considering getting Pro since exporting from FCP ties it up. (On my system I prefer to use Cleaner 6 to encode. That way I can still edit while compressing in the background.)

So I did the 2nd thing you mentioned. I exported using CBR audio settings. It worked.

On another note, I bought a new laptop recently, and I noticed when I used the Migration Manager to bring everything from my old laptop to my new one, my QT Pro 7.4 did not install. QT 10 installed over it and did not bring the PRO abilities with it. Will I have to re-purchase Pro version again?

Thank you again for your help. I was stumped and getting frustrated that no one else had my problem.
Usually just skimming the forums I find good answers to my q’s.

    Happy Editing!!!!

    Hi all,

My fix was this – I ran a program called Disk Warrior on my MacBook and this solved the problem. I didn’t have more than one video card in my MacBook.

    Hope this helps!

Thanks, I believe I repaired permissions already, but will do again, just in case I just *think* I repaired them. Not in too much of a hurry but would like to get this fixed soon! I love being able to rough edit anywhere, although I wish I would have splurged on the MacBook Pro…
    Will report what works.

I’m having the same problem. I’ve been using FCP for 5 years, never seen this one. I am currently using FCP 5.1.4 on a MacBook Intel 2Ghz Core 2 Duo. OS 10.4.11, 1 GB Ram.
Effects and filters were working, then one day I noticed they weren’t working. The basic transitions work, dissolves, etc. But no color correction, no audio filters. You can place the effect on the clip, but it has no “effect” at all.
Trashing preferences doesn’t fix this, as you found out.

Did you ever find out what happened? I’m about to re-install FCP.

    Thanks,

    Jacquie
