filters and effects not working
In FCP 5.1.4, I have a very large project that has a lot of effects in it. The other day, all the effects worked fine. Today however, when I opened the project, the same effects don’t work. When I go to the filters tab, they’re all still there. But when I add new masks, they don’t show up even after they’re rendered. If I apply new effects, nothing shows up no matter how much I adjust it.

Trash your preferences and see if it fixes it.

I figured out how to trash my preferences. Unfortunately it didn’t fix the problem. The effects still aren’t showing up. Any other ideas? Thanks!

I’m having the same problem. I’ve been using FCP for 5 years, never seen this one. I am currently using FCP 5.1.4 on a MacBook Intel 2Ghz Core 2 Duo. OS 10.4.11, 1 GB Ram.
Effects and filters were working, then one day I noticed they weren’t working. The basic transitions work, dissolves, etc. But no color correction, no audio filters. You can place the effect on the clip, but it has no “effect” at all.
Trashing preferences doesn’t fix this, as you found out.Did you ever find out what happened? I’m about to re-install FCP.

I ended up re-installing FCP…. which worked, for a couple of weeks…now, here I am AGAIN!!!!
Did anyone ever figure this out? Re-installing isn’t the solution. :-/

So the deal is that for SOME reason…Apple has decided that if you have more than one video card, you’re SCREWED!
Yep…. did you recently add another video card to your system? I have 3 and it doesn’t work. I bought another machine and tested it….worked perfectly (it only has one video card in it).
I ended up calling a friend of mine who works for Apple…obviously they don’t publicize this bit of factual knowledge, but that’s the answer.
Doesn’t Apple know that video professionals use more than one video card??? It’s ridiculous if you ask me.
