For a Mac, ‘Alt – Command – I’ This will bring up the pixel dimensions which you can then change. Alternatively, once the move tool is selected, you can tick the ‘show transform controls’ box at the top bar, which will then show you a small box in each corner of the object. Hold shift while dragging them in or out to keep proportions the same.

thanks that was a really big help. Increasing to 32 bit helped a lot and the noise does help create a better transition to black. However, there still wasn’t a completely smooth transition into black. Is there any way of achieving this without using real light?

this has all been a really big help, thanks for the tips. I think I’ll go for the DV matte first considering that it’s the cheapest. Was thinking about getting Shake too now as it’s a lot cheaper than it was, and I can do other things with it.
