It sounds like an FCP issue, but I cannot find the relation between the two (yet).
Is there a possibility that something has changed to the audio sample rate on the camera, that it perhaps to 32kHz instead of 48kHz? -
Vincent, FCP 5.0.1 is rather old compared to OS 10.5 – I’d consider upgrading to FCP 6 or downgrading the OS.

December 1, 2008 at 3:21 pm in reply to: Digital Cinema Desktop on 2nd monitor disappearedI have no idea, actually – but perhaps: What happens when you reorder screens in the OS system settings?
I mean, I guess there is some link to the OS and what is doing to recognize screens , I noticed that when the error occurred the second screen’s wallpaper (or background – sorry I can’t remember the English word for it) also changed to that of the main screen.

I already found a solution: power off – disconnect 2nd monitor – power on – open and close FCP – power off – reconnect 2nd monitor and everything’s back to normal. Bit of a nuisance, but it works!

How did you move the edit, did you copy-paste the clips or did you drag the HD sequence itself (from the browser or the viewer) into the SD timeline?

No you don’t have to render before export. Actually there is some kind of bug in the Export to Quicktime Movie routine that sometimes causes rendered parts of my timeline to show up with the text “unrendered” on the gradient. When it happens I need to get things unrendered in order to export properly. It is sort of against common sense… I would advice to export via Compressor, which is more reliable in my opinion.
The fact that the TC reader effect would take much render time is a bit unexpected… I use it regularly, it plays realtime without any problem and renders very quickly. But there is an effect setting where you can tweak the background transparency and that indeed causes substantial render times. Perhaps that is the case?

1. Is your sequence set to unlimited RT (RT setting, upper left corner of sequence window)?
2. What is it you are rendering? It is probably not necessary to render the Timecode Reader effect. In the Sequence>Render All menu you can turn off ‘Full’.
3. Rendering photos may be the source of the problem. If you are using static photos, you could nest a part of each photo in a subsequence, render that and copy it in the sequence for as long as you need it.Jaap

If I understand correctly you want a letterboxed 4:3 version of your 16:9 sequence?
Then create a DV50 NTSC sequence that is not anamorphic and drag the other sequence into it, straight from the browser.Jaap
