By the way Oriel, David is also right of course: the link he refers to gives a good introduction, it’s worth absorbing it.

You can find the auto-conform option in the User Preferences’ Editing tab, bottom right.

I am not sure if that is right, David. I guess if everyone has learned the manual by heart there is no need for a forum anymore. But that is not the case. People want to make a jump start to get to the creative part. I would not blame them for that and I see no reason to look down upon it.
Answering questions may take a bit of patience – think of your teachers at school.

Hm – can’t explain that one. I’m at loss.
I assume you could see from the meters that audio was coming in?

Try other audio channel on the camera.
Try change Capture setting in FCP (If external video has something to do with it then why not Capture settings)

    Hope one of these helps!

    Won’t go. Check Help>FCP User manual, p.924.

The manual says you can use a DV camera for voiceover but you have to disable external video before doing this (View>ExternalVideo to Off or press cmd-F12)

The computer can’t find the DSR.

First, check if the DSR is on remote; if yes then change the Firewire cable. If that doesn’t help connect another Firewire device to see if the problem is with the DSR or with the Mac.

Your sequence settings seem to have turned sour.

    1. Open your User Preferences (alt-Q). In the editing tab, set Auto-Conform Sequences to Ask
    2. Create a new sequence. The sequence preset doesn’t matter.
    3. Drag your footage from the browser into the sequence. Now you will see a FCP message asking you it will cahnge sequence settings to match your clip. Select yes.

And then things should be OK.

January 29, 2009 at 7:54 pm in reply to: How can I do this in FCP

I use the voiceover tool (alt-0), set an in and out point on the timeline and record. If I want to do another take FCP will by itself select the next track and record on that. So in the end I will have all my takes on different tracks, I can select the right one, delete or disable the others and move on.
I don’t know if Avid has something more intelligent but this seems quite efficient to me.

What are you monitoring on, is it possible that your monitor or your graphics card is fooling you?

Yes it definitely seems to be an OS issue.
