  • How can I do this in FCP

I’ve been looking around to see if I can do this in either Final Cut or Soundtrack, but I can’t seem to find my answer.
I used to work in Avid mostly and FCP part time. Now it’s FCP full time.
The way my edit room is set up, I would record VO straight into my Avid (from our VO booth, not the best set up – but that’s the way it is). I could add markers while recording. So if I liked take 5, I could go to marker 5 and find the start of the take. FCP won’t allow me to add marks while digitizing. Is there any way or other program that will allow me to add markers while recording then pass that data to FCP?

    I hope that makes sense.

You _may_ be able to drop markers using the Voice Over tool. (I’m not in front of my machine right now.)

Try this – Create a new sequence, fill it with enough slug to cover the lenght of your vo session, and open the voice over tool from the tools menu.

Hit ‘m’ while recording to drop a mark.

That’s the way I did it before I found markers in Avid. It’s just not as fun to go back. I can work like that, but if I don’t have to I don’t want to.

I use the voiceover tool (alt-0), set an in and out point on the timeline and record. If I want to do another take FCP will by itself select the next track and record on that. So in the end I will have all my takes on different tracks, I can select the right one, delete or disable the others and move on.
I don’t know if Avid has something more intelligent but this seems quite efficient to me.

That’s interesting. I like that. I’m going to have to give that a try next session.

    Thanks
